It is of great significance that the UNO Charter begins with the words "Wars begin in the minds of Men". So, to learn a good Art of Living it is always of great importance to train our mind to the scientific system of analysis and synthesis supplied by Anekant. There were different and many a times conflicting scools of Philosophical thoughts in times of Mahavir to explain the universal scheme. It was therefore Mahavir's task to evolve a synthesis, which would recognize the element of truth in each of them. Mahavir did this by advocating the doctrine of Anekant and therefore there is no doctrine in Jain metaphysics, which speaks in absolute terms. The importance of Anekant lies in the fact that it introduces the concept of non-violence even in the thinking process. This aspect should make the Jain society most liberal and cosmopolitan in its outlook. However, the most discouraging aspect of the matter is that we, the Jains ourselves have stopped practicing Anekant in our social as well Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
