They are Ahimsa, Satya, Asteya (non stealing), Aparigraha (non accumulation of material things) and Brahmacharya (celibacy with godliness). In these bare outlines it would not be possible to debate the deep and fine exposition of these basic concepts, but a short reference to the jain view of universal mechanism would be necessary because these five concepts are consequential to this understanding. 97 It is beyond dispute that all of us are in search of happiness and that all of our activities are directed to seek it... However, almost all of us fail in achieving permanent happiness, though we do get some time some temperory happiness in achieving some material success. However, this being temperory and transitory, we again feel unhappy and try some other avenue to be happy. Thus the chain of happiness and unhappiness goes on endlessly till the end of life. Is there any solution for this?
