But centralisation cannot be totally eliminated. A balanced use of this is also essential. Centralisation has aggravated unemployment and given rise to other problems. Along with centralisation, decentralisation should also take place. It both these occur, then we have Mahavira and Gandhi. Role of the United Nations Organisation Today, the control over resources rests basically with the nations possessing them. If oil is produced in the Arab countries, they have the control over it. If several of the minerals are located in America, then the control over them is of America. The role of the United Nations so far has been limited mainly to maintaining peace and harmony. If an organisation like the United Nations was encouraged to perform the role of the formulation of world economic policy, it would discharge that function and gain control over the world's resources. That would resolve many problems of the day. Principles of Global Economic Policy Ericsson has suggested some principles for setting the present system right and for bringing about changes which can be very useful for world economic policy. His foremost principle is that anger, greed, hatred and infatuation should be reduced. This may appear to be a spiritualistic and sermonising precept; it is not a small thing. In this principle lies the beginning of a big truth. An economic system can never become balanced without balancing the emotions. If the lust for greed is powerful, no economic system can become balanced, no matter what policies one follows. If feelings of hatred and inferiority complex are strong, no good economic policy can be effective.
