________________ [ viii ] CHAPTER II Subject Page: Law of Action and Reaction .. .. 13-21 'Law of causation' includes the law that the like produces the like- All the mental activities determine the character of the individual ego- Each character 01 personality is the grand total result of previous menta action. Each effect is latent in the cause and vice versa - It is our own Karma that produces joy or sorrow, pleasure or pain. Our present character is determined by the past, Neither God nor Satan is responsible for our pleasure or pain— No 100m left for the hypothesis of predestination and grace- What do they signify- A believer in the law of Karma is a free agent- Reward and punishment given by God are nothing but the reactions of our own mental and physical actions. The doctrine of Karma denies the arbitrary Ruler- God never rewards the virtuous nor punishes the wicked. CHAPTER III Law of Compensation ... 21-30 The doctrine of Karma includes the law of compensation' and the 'law of retribution' - There is an counterbalance between a cause and its effect- All the laws of Karma work together— There is neither increase nor decrease anywhere. The same 'law of compensation' manifests itself in all the planes, mental, intellectual and moral with equal regularity. There cannot
