________________ Notes. . (H. = Pikā of Haribhadra. The 4 padas of a verse (“v." are called a, b, c, d.) First Chapter. 4. HTAT = PATH and archet=apa (below, 5, 2, 48) are passive forms with active meaning (Pischel's Grammar, $ 550). Second Chapter. 7-10 = Utt. 22, 42—44, 46 (see above, introduction). THTHTH "famous” in Jacobi's translation of Utt. 9.a = rĄ H. 11. ating here and below; 8, 34, loc. in the meaning of abl. Third Chapter. 1. Aiš = Tifera (ara IETĘ H.). 4. WTTT&TQ is contracted from TTT TIT. - 5. The common Sanskrit rendering of सज्जायर is शय्यातर where are apparently has the meaning of "giving", compare facefa. But gultat seems to be an equally possible rendering. ...6. gay stands for a gre.catry=Auten free from the dust” [which Karman produces in the soul). Fourth Chapter. The title of this chapter is in Sanskrit og stafaritent:, but its Prakrit equivalent in the Introduction, is not छज्जीवणियाया but कन्जीवणिया which looks like a derivative from stan. This is the reason why I have translated it by “Concerning the six Groups of Souls”. It would have been more correct to say ... vai 4क्खायं सुपवत्तं i. e. अभायणं and, a little later, कयरं og of oilafuren TAHUN .... Ja oto.
