In this volume, which is jointly published by Is.M.E.O. and the Institute of Anthropology, University of Rome, the A. deals with the human skeletal remains found by the Italian Archaeological Mission at Butkara II, the first prebuddhist graveyard discovered and investigated in the area. The examination of the skulls leads the author to sketch the characteristics of a fairly homogeneous group which, though close to the dividing line between the Asiatic mongoloid region and the area of Mediterranean types, does not show mongoloid features, but is linked to the << proto-Mediterranean» type.
