________________ 37THE119-84 • 105 Hindi Dict ETCI ‘small”, “younger'. HAI and ETZI, are contrasting words. (Turner, 5071) Sk. yia 'young of an animal', Pk. 'boy, child', Sk. Flach (Turner, 12417) Pali 3014(891406) 'young of an animal'. It is I think derived from Sk. शाव. Hemacandra has noted Pk. छाव, Sk. शाव, Pk. 3947 <Sk. i. For other cases of Sk. 91->8. See Pischel, para 211. But Turner says relationship between Pila and 5919 is unclear. (Turner, 5026) Inspite of phonological problem I find it difficult to regard the element glo in 591 oh, ET**, ** (Turner, 5069, 5070) as unrelated to शाव. छोक्क Possibly derives from an expressive / emphatic form < 517€ < 110€ < 3119106. (Ele perhaps originated from छोक्करूव > Guj. छोकरु). Cf. Ap. डिक्करूव' male child' Cf. डिक्करूवई खद्धई मक्कडेहिँ in an Apabhraíśa poem. Accordingly I think to in g (> Et2T etc.; Turner, 5071) is the same as to derived from Pila (> 19.) : It is extended with oço For base extension with Sk. 159 (with the meaning-shade of PRR) and its instances see my Vāgvyāpār (in Gujarati) 1954, p. 229-231. For the stem-enlarging, diminutive -2- see Bhayani, 2151 2110420 faart, 3rd edition, p. 114-120. (Instances of Guj. nouns ara, HT, 142; adjectives in M. Ore, circe, viat).
