The description of the objects of Avadhijñāna (clairvoyance) of the devas. [705] The description of the realm and time is done with reference to the Tiryañca (animals) and Manuṣya (humans), which should be understood as a special feature.
For the purpose of describing the subject matter of the Avadhijñāna of the devas, the Ācārya Gāthāsūtra is obtained:
Paṇuvīsa joyanāṇaṃ ohī ventara-kumāravagāṇaṃ |
Saṃkhejjajjoyanāṇaṃ jo disiyāṇaṃ jahaṇohī || 68 ||
The Jhaghanya (minimum) Avadhijñāna of the Vyantara and Bhavanavāsī devas extends to an area of twenty-five Yojanas, and the Jhaghanya Avadhijñāna of the Jyotiṣī devas extends to an area of Saṃkhyāta (countable) Yojanas. || 68 ||
The Jhaghanya Avadhijñāna of the Vyantara and Bhavanavāsī devas covers a period of slightly less than one day. It should be specially understood here that the Jhaghanya Avadhijñāna of the Jyotiṣī devas, while covering an area of Saṃkhyāta Yojanas, still covers an area that is Saṃkhyātaguṇita (countably infinite) times larger than the area covered by the Vyantara and Bhavanavāsī devas. The duration of the Avadhijñāna of the Jyotiṣī devas is also greater than that of the Vyantara and Bhavanavāsī devas.
Asurāṇamasaṃkhejjā koḍīo sesamjodisaṃtāṇaṃ |
Saṃkhātīdasahassā ukkasaṃ ohivisayo du || 69 ||
The Utkṛṣṭa (supreme) Avadhijñāna of the Asura-kumāras extends to an area of Asaṃkhyāta (innumerable) Koṭis of Yojanas, and the Utkṛṣṭa Avadhijñāna of the remaining Jyotiṣī devas extends to an area of Saṃkhyātīdasahassā (innumerable thousands) of Yojanas. || 69 ||
Among the ten types of Bhavanavāsī devas, the Utkṛṣṭa Avadhijñāna of the Asura-kumāras extends to an area of Asaṃkhyāta Koṭis of Yojanas, and the Utkṛṣṭa Avadhijñāna of the remaining eight types of Vyantara, nine types of Bhavanavāsī, and five types of Jyotiṣī devas extends to an area of Asaṃkhyāta thousands of Yojanas. Their Avadhijñāna grasps the lower realms in a small measure and the transverse realms in a greater measure. The Utkṛṣṭa duration of the Avadhijñāna of the Asura-kumāras is Asaṃkhyāta years, and the Utkṛṣṭa duration of the Avadhijñāna of the remaining Vyantara, Bhavanavāsī, and Jyotiṣī devas is also Asaṃkhyāta years. However, the special point is that the Utkṛṣṭa duration of the Asura-kumāras is Saṃkhyātaguṇahīna (countably less) than their Utkṛṣṭa duration.
