468] Explanation of Bondage and Non-Bondage in Chakkhandagama
[3, 16] Mithyādṛṣṭi (false belief) is bondage. These are bondages, the rest are non-bondages. ||16||
The sixteen types of karmas (prakṛtis) such as Apratyākhyānāvaraṇīya (non-renunciation-obstructing), Krodha (anger), Māna (pride), Māyā (deceit), Lobha (greed), Manuṣyagati (human state of existence), Audārikasarīra (gross body), Audārikasarīrāṅgopāṅga (gross body parts), Jarāsahavarṇanārāyaṇasaṃhanana (lightning-thunderbolt-spear body-making), and Manuṣyagatiprāyogyānupūrvī (human state of existence-conducive-successive-stages) - which of these are bondages and which are non-bondages? ||17||
Mithyādṛṣṭi (false belief) up to Asaṃyatasammādṛṣṭi (non-restrained right belief) are bondages. These are bondages, the rest are non-bondages. ||18||
Pratyākhyānāvaraṇīya Krodha (renunciation-obstructing anger), Māna (pride), Māyā (deceit), and Lobha (greed) - which of these are bondages and which are non-bondages? ||19||
Mithyādṛṣṭi (false belief) up to Saṃyatāsaṃyatā (restrained-unrestrained) are bondages. These are bondages, the rest are non-bondages. ||20||
Puruṣaveda (male psychic energy) and Saṃjvalana (flaming) Krodha (anger) - which of these are bondages and which are non-bondages? ||21||
Mithyādṛṣṭi (false belief) up to Anivṛttikaraṇa (non-cessation), Bādara (gross), Sāmparāyika (future-oriented), Pratiṣṭhāpopasama (subsidence-cum-destruction), and Kṣapaka (destructive) are bondages. After Anivṛttikaraṇa (non-cessation), the remaining part up to a countable fraction is where the bondage is severed. These are bondages, the rest are non-bondages. ||22||
The meaning is that after the performance of the internal activity, the remaining part of the Anivṛttikaraṇa (non-cessation) period, up to a countable fraction, is where the bondage of Puruṣaveda (male psychic energy) and Saṃjvalana (flaming) Krodha (anger) is severed.
Saṃjvalana Māna (flaming pride) and Māyā (deceit) - which of these are bondages and which are non-bondages? ||23||
