This was quoted in his letter by an young friend to Sri C. Rajagopalachari as appropriate on Rajaji s son Birthday on 8th December 1965. This is published in Swaraiva' dated December 18, 1965. Rajaji describes this poem as “one of the finest pieces of modern English poetry" and as the Bhagavad Gita in secular English, If you can keep your head when all about you
If you can make one heap of all your winnings Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings But make allowance for their doubting too;
And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
To serve your turn long after they are gone, Or being hated, don't give way to hating.
And so hold on when there is nothing in you And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

ખડો કરે માત્ર મનબળે - વિશ્વાસ જે નું તિજમાં ન છોડે
કહે બધાને, પણ સ્વસ્થ ચિત્તે, અસંખ્ય લોકો સહ મિત્રભાવે, જ્યારે બધાને નુજમાં જ શંકા, તું સાંભળે ક્રોધ કર્યા વિના જ – '
વર્તે છતાં ભકિતા ન ખવે, ઉદારતાથી પણ એ શંકા જે આવકારે જય ને પરાજય
હળે મળે રાજવીઓની સંગે નિભાવ સ્વાભાવિક માની લઈ તેસમાન રીતે તું તટસ્થ ભાવે
સ્પર્શત સામાન્ય જન છતાં તને - જે તું પ્રતીક્ષા કર ધીર ધારી
તે પ્રાણપ્યારી જીવ જેમ જાળવી થાકયા વિના રાહ નિહાળવામાં,
જે શત્રુ કે મિત્ર તને દુભાવી તેવી ચીજો જીર્ણ વિશીર્ણ દેખી
* કે છેતરાયે યદિ કોઈથી તો
વિચારી લઈ શાંતિથી જીર્ણ અશ્વો શકે નહીં, જે સહુ સાથ તારે કયાંયે છતાં જૂઠ ન આચરે તે – લઈ મથે નું નવ સર્જવા જો -
સંપર્ક નિત્યે, પણ ના ઘનિટતા – ધિક્કારનું જે તુજને કદી કો જે કે જો તે ઢગલો કરીને
જો તું ભરે એક અમૂલ્ય મીનિટ 3 ના તિરસ્કાર કરે તદાપિ,
એકકેક સેકન્ડથ સાર્થ ઉત્તમ વાત કરે ના સુફિયાણી કે તું મૂકી દિયે હોડ મહિ ઘડીકમાં,
તે તો ખરે આ દેખાવ ના ખૂબ ભલાઈને કરે -
અને ગુમાવે, વળી એકડેથી
પૃથ્વી અહે તારી, બધું ય એમાં જે સ્વપ્ન નું સર્જન, કિનું સ્વપ્ન કરે શરૂ, લેશ નાહીં નિસાસે
તારું જ – ને એથી અધીક એ કેતને નચાવે નહિ, ગૃતિ ધર; ખેલને જે ઉરથ સરે તવ -
