પશુધ્ધ જીવન
And, when you do not eat flesh, you have already done a job for the love of humanity.
|| ધાવત રક્ષત || कर्कटस्य पादरिछन्नः । સહાયો રક્ષાયે ધાવતઃ | क्षुद्रप्राणिष्वपि करुणाव्यक्तिः । નાઃ વરવતી મત્તિ ધ્વાયત | દોડા, બચાવા ! કરચલાને એક પગ કપાયા છે. તે જોઈને ખીજા એ કરચલા તેને બચાવવા દોડે છે, ક્ષુદ્ર પ્રાણીઓમાં પણ આવી કરૂણાવૃત્તિ હાય છે. માનવીઓ, જીએ, મનથી વિચારે.
TO THE RESCUE
One crab has lost a paw, Two crabs come to its rescue. These tiny wee creatures have the sense Of love and compassion.
Of this why does man not take notice?

॥ ગદ્ય દાસ સ્વોડભૂમિ ॥ પવન તપૂર્ણ | પદ્મવો ન તત્વ |
ह्यो मन्दो वसन्तसमीरः । सूर्योऽपि सुखावहः यष्टिसस्त्रोऽहमितस्ततः पर्यहिण्डे ।
સરહ્યું. હૂઁલા. મીનારવાળીડન્ |
मम मनस्यभवत् । एते प्रसन्नाः । परं भयं न दूरे ।
वो जालिकः आगन्ता । तान् प्रगृह्यापणं नेता च ।
किं तेषां दुःखमापतिष्यतीति चिन्तयतो ममाश्रूणि समुद्भूतानि

હમણાં હાસ્ય; આવતી કાલે આંસુ જે આજે છે તે કાલે નથી; જે ગઇ કાલે હતુ તે આજે નથી. ગઈ કાલે વસંતના વાયુ વાઈ રહ્યા હતા;
હાથમાં લાકડી ફેરવતા, સ૨ાવરમાં ખતકા અને મનમાં ને મનમાં વિચાર
સૂર્ય પણ સુખાવહ હતા. આમ તેમ હું ક્રૂરતા હતા. માછલીએ ક્રીડા કરતાં હતાં. આવ્યા આ જીવે કેવાં પ્રસન્ન દેખાય છે? પણ ભય દૂર નથી. આવતી કાલે પાધિ આવશે, તેમને પકડી મારીને બજારમાં વેચવા લઈ જશે. આથી તેમને કેટલુ દુઃખ થશે એના વિચાર આવતાં મારી આખામાંથી આંસુ વહેવા લાગ્યાં TO DAY LAUGHTER, TOMORROW TEARS! When the spring breeze was gentle, And the sun was pleasant,
// અમ્મા-પતત્રાણિ । एतान्यम्बापतत्राणि ।
तानि शावका दूनचेतसो निध्यायन्ति
न ते जानन्ति माता हतेतिं । तथापि निध्यायन्ति निध्यायन्ति निध्यायन्ति । इमं मातुः स्नेहं विक्ष्यातीव विह्यलो भवामि ॥
I strolled with my stick hither and thither, I saw ducks and fishes playing happily in water. I thought, inspite of their happiness,
their world was in danger. For tomorrow they would be caught and sent to the fish market. And my tears flowed helplessly, As I thought what would their sufferings be..
