2. Translation of the para on page 57 of the second edition of “ GAUTAMA BUDDHA ':—
"It is said above that the Tirthakas disliked Buddha. They had sent દ woman Cinci to Jetavana and tried to defame Him. It happened in the seventh rainy season. As that attempt failed, the anger of the Tirthakas had increased. More, as days went by, the fame of Buddha increassed and all were becoming his deciples. So, they again tried to slander Buddha. They sent for some butchers and got murdered a Bhikshuni called Sundari. They brought the dead body of Sundari and hid it in a shrub near Jetavana. All came to know of the disappearance of Sundari. While searching, her body was found in the shrub near Jetavana. The Tirthakas came and describing in various ways that Gautama it is that has done this murder,' made all the people believe it. But, by that time, quarrel had come among the murderers. The Tirthakas had given them money for the murder of Sundari. During the quarrel they abused one another. While abusing like this, the secret of the murder of Sundari was published. The Tirthakas were put to shame. The love and compassion of Buddha protected Him and made His fame to grow."
[ મુદ્દે સાંકાસ્યથી શ્રાવસ્તિના જેતાવનમાં ગયા, બુદ્ધને પ્રસિદ્ધ થતા જોઈ તે તીર્થંકા નામના બીજા ધર્માંવાળાએ (તે) સહન કરી શકયા નહિ. તેઓએ કાઈ પણ રીતે બુદ્ધનું નામ બદનામ કરવાના વિચાર કર્યો. છેવટે તેએાએ ચી'ચા નામક એક સ્ત્રીને એક યેાજના સૂચવી. તેણી ઘણીવાર, ધર્મ સાંભળનાર તરીકે, જેતાવનમાં આવ્યા કરતી હતી. એક દિવસ, એક લાકડાનેા દડા ( કકડા ) પેાતાના પેટ ઉપર બાંધીને તેણી (સભામાં)આવી, અને ભરસભામાં કહેવા લાગી : “ હે મુદ્દે, હું સગર્ભા છું. તું આ બાળકને પિતા છે. મારા માટે સૂવાની જગ્યાની વ્યવસ્થાકર.” તેણીને અસત્ય ખેલતી જોઈ ને ખુદ્ધને તેના ઉપર કરૂણા આવી. તેમણે કહ્યું : “ બહેન, તે કહ્યું તે સાચુ છે કે ખાટું છે તું અને હું જ જાણીએ છીએ. ક્રમ ખરૂ ને? તેમને ( મુદ્દતે ) જોઇ ને અને તેમના શબ્દો સાંભળીને ચીચીનું શરીર થરથરવા લાગ્યું. જ્યારે
