। -(काव्यादर्श 1/37) 6. देखिये— It will be clear from the above the Dandin is speaking of certain languages from the literature point of view and not from the Linguistic one. Hence, the bad logic of segregating Apabhramsha from the Prakrits, of whom indeed it is only the youngest phase just as (Shauraseni or Pali or Magadhi) is the oldest, may be excused in his case. (See-Bhavisadayattakaha of Dhanapala, Published by G.O.R.I. Baroda, 1967, Introd. Jainas as possess an extremely valuable narrative literature which includes stories of every kind romances, novels, parables and beast fables, legends and fairy tales and funny stories of description. The sweatambara monks used these stories as the most effective means of spreading their doctrines amongst their countrymen and developed a real art of narration in all the above mentioned languages in prose and vase in kavya as well as in the plainest style of every day life. -(See- on the literature of the Swetambaras of Gujarat (Leipzig, Germany, 1922) Page 6) 9. All the events many agem of the narrative art of ancient India has come down to us by way of the Jaina commentaries and narrative literature which would otherwise have been consigned to oblivion and in other cases the Jainas have preserved interesting versions of numerous legends and tales which are known from other sources also. :-(See-History of Indian Literature (University of Calcutta, 1993) Page 487) प्राकृतविद्या अक्तूबर-दिसम्बर '2000 00 39
