( SPEAKER LOK SABHA ) •I went through a portion of the Hindi-Sanskrit Dictionary prepared by Prof. Ram Saroop, Prof. of Hindi and Sanskrit, Hans Raj College, Delhi. The pages have been taken at random from the middle of the book. Almost every word in Hindi in ordinary use and even those that are rarely used has been noticed in this book.
There are many Sanskrit-Hindi Dictionaries, but correspondingly there is practically no Hindi-Sanskrit Dictionary. Sanskrit is the mother of Hindi and all the northern Indian Languages. Any new expressions have to be coined from Sanskrit source. It is therefore necessary that any body who desires to have a proficiency in Hindi should have equally good knowledge of Sanskrit. All Hindi writers and those in regional languages have been great Sanskrit scholars. In fact they did not read regional language by itself at any time. After acquiring proficiency in Sanskrit they automatically and without any special attempt, and with little or no effort, became proficient in their own respective language. "I welcome such a book and I hope and trust that it will be found useful not only by scholars but also by laymen who ought to have a working knowledge of Sanskrit if they want to acquire a good knowledge of Hindi. A Dictionary of this type is worth having in every
library.
