शब्दार्थ-उमारअखितं--उद्धार,अदा और क्षेत्र, पलिपपल्योपम, तिहा-तीन प्रकार का. समयवाससयसमए–समय, सौ वर्ष और ममम में, केसवहारो- बालान का उद्धरण करें, बीचोपहि-द्वीप और समुद्र, आजतसाइ–आयु और प्रसादि जोवों का. परिमाणं - परिमाण, गणना। __गाया- उद्धार, अद्धा और क्षेत्र, इस प्रकार पल्योपम के तीन भेद हैं। उनमें अनुक्रम से एक समय में, सौ वर्ष में और एक समय में बालाग्र का उद्धरण किया जाता है। जिससे उनके द्वारा क्रम से द्वीप समुद्रों, आयु और प्रसादि जीवों की गणना की जाती है। विशेषार्थ-इस गाथा में पल्योपम के भेद, उनका स्वरूप और उनके उपयोग करने का संक्षेप में निर्देश किया है। ___ लोक में जो वस्तुयें सरलता से गिनी जा सकती हैं और जहाँ तक गणित विधि का क्षेत्र है, वहां तक तो गणना करना सरल होता लेकिन उसके आगे उपमा प्रमाण को प्रवृत्ति होती है। जैसे कि तिल, सरसों, गेहूँ आदि धान्य गिने नहीं जा सकते, अतः उन्हें तोल या माप वगैरह से आंक लेते हैं। इसी प्रकार समय की जो अवधि वर्षों के रूप में गिनी जा सकती है, उसकी तो गणना की जाती है
और उसके लिये शास्त्रों में पूर्वांग, पूर्व आदि की संज्ञार्य मानी हैं, किन्तु इसके बाद भी समय की अवधि इतनी लम्बी है कि उसकी गणना वर्षों में नहीं की जा सकती है । अतः उसके लिये उपमाप्रमाण का सहारा लिया जाता है। उस उपमाप्रमाण के दो भेद हैंपल्योपम' और सामरोपम ।
समय की जिम लम्बी अवधि को पल्य की उपमा दी जाती है, उसे १ अनाप वगैरह भरने के गोलाकार स्थान को पल्प कहते हैं ।
