नारक भी असंख्यात हैं, परन्तु नारकों की असंख्यात संख्या मनुष्यों की असंख्यात संख्या से असंख्यातगुनी अधिक है। नारकों को संख्या को शास्त्र में इस प्रकार बतलाया है: अवसर्पिणी और उत्सपिणों के समयों के मुख्य हैं। तथा क्षेत्र से सात रज्जु -प्रभाण घनीकृत लोक के अल मात्र प्रतर क्षेत्र में जितनी सूचि श्रेणियाँ होती हैं, उनके द्वितीय वर्गमूल को उन्हीं के प्रथम वर्गमूल के साथ गुणने पर जो गुणनफल हो उतनी सूचि श्रेणियों के प्रदेशों की संख्या और नारकों की संख्या बराबर होती है । इसकी कल्पना से इस प्रकार समझ सकते हैं । कल्पना कीजिये कि अङ्ग लमात्र प्रतर-क्षेत्र में २५६ सृष्टि श्रेणिय
हैं। इनका प्रथम वर्गमूल १६ हुआ और दूसरा ४ गुणने से ६४ हो । है । ये ६४ सूचि श्रेणिय श्रेणी के ३२००००० प्रदेशों के हिसाब से, ६४ २०४६००००० प्रवेश हुए, इतने ही नारक हैं ।
