प्रत्येक गुणस्थान में कितनी-कितनी और किन-किन प्रकृतियों का बन्ध, उदय, उदीरणा और सत्ता हो सकती है, इसका वर्णन क्रमशः आगे की गाथाओं में किया जा रहा है।
गुणस्थानों के नाम मिच्चे मासण मोसे अविरय देसे पमत्त अपमत्ते। नियट्टि अनियट्टि सुहमुषसम खोण सजोगि अजोगि गुणा ॥२॥ गाथार्थ-मिथ्यात्व, सास्वादन, मिश्र, अविरत, देशविरत, प्रमत्तविरत, अप्रमत्तविरत, निवृत्ति, अनिवृत्ति, सूक्ष्म, उपशम, क्षीण, सयोगि और अयोगि-ये गुणस्थान हैं। विशेषार्थ—गुणस्थानों में कर्मों की वन्ध आदि अवस्थाओं को बतलाने से पहले गुणस्थानों के नामों का कथन करना जरूरी होने से इस गाथा में गुणस्थानों के नाम गिनाये हैं। इनके नाम क्रमशः इस प्रकार हैं -- (१) मिथ्यात्व,
(२) सास्वादन (सासादन) (३) मिथ (सम्यग्मिथ्यादृष्टि), (४) अविरत सम्यग्दृष्टि, (५) देशविरत,
(६) प्रमत्तसंयत, (७) अप्रमत्तसंयत,
(८) निवृत्ति (अपूर्वकरण), (९) अनिवृत्तिवादरसंपराय, (१०) सूक्ष्मसंपराय, (११) उपशान्तमोह-वीतराग, (१२) क्षीणमोह-वीतराग, (१३) सयोगिकेवली, (१४) अयोगिकेवली।
