Bankruptcy of Religion' - 'धर्मका दिवालियापन' अंग्रेजी ग्रन्थ में परम उपकारी परमात्मा होते हुए विश्व में जीवों की कष्ट पूर्ण अवस्था के सद्भावपर आलोचना की गयी है। पापके फलस्वरूप युद्धका प्रचण्ड दण्ड ईश्वर प्रदत मानना अत्यन्त जघन्य तथा महान् प्रतिहिंसात्मक कार्य है । एक शक्तिशाली पिता अपनी कन्या पर अत्याचारको चुपचाप देखता है और पीछे यह कहता है कि इस लड़कोने मेरे गौरवपर पानी फेर दिया है। ऐसे पिताके समान ईश्वरका भी कार्य माना जाएगा। समर्थ एवं परोपकारी महान आत्मा पहले ही अनर्थको रोकने का उद्यम करेगा जिससे पश्चात् दण्डदानकी अप्रिय स्थिति उत्पन्न न हो' ।
गांधीजी द्वारा अत्यन्त पूज्य गुरुतुल्य आदरणीय माने गये महानुभाव शताघाती रामचंद्रजी लिखते है-जगत्कर्त्ताने ऐसे पुरुषोंको क्यों जन्म दिया ? ऐसे नाम डुबानेवाले पुत्रको जन्म देनेकी क्या जरूरत थी जो विषयादिकों में निगमन हो अपनी आत्मा को ईश्वरीय प्रकाशसे प्रयतया वंचित रखने के प्रयत्न में संलग्न रहता है े ?''
I. "We should like to see this supreme benevolence that feeds ravens making some mark in the human order helping or halting wisdom to lessen the world old flow of tears and blood guarding the innocent from pain and privation, snatching the woman and child from war-drunk brute; or what would be simpler and better preventing the birth of the brute or the germination of his impulses. just this has always been the supreme difficulty of the theologician......... Even today we gaze almost helplessly upon the wars, the diseases, the poverty, the crimes, the narrow-minds and stunted natures, which darken our life. And God, it seems, was busy gilding the sun-set or putting pretty eyes in peacock's tails: Religious writers say that God permitted the war on account of sin. The motive matter little. Such 'perrnission' is still vindictive punishment of the erudest order.
