अब ज्ञानावरणादि कर्मों के अनुक्रम का कारण कहते हैं -
अब्भरहिदादु पुव्वं, णाणं तत्तो हि सणं होदि।
सम्मत्तमदो विरियं, जीवाजीवगदमिदि चरिमे ॥१६॥ अर्थ - आत्मा के गुणों में
अ पना प्रधान है। इसलिए सर्व प्रथम ज्ञान को रखा है। इसके पश्चात् दर्शन कहा और उसके बाद सम्यक्त्व। वीर्य-शक्तिरूप है, वह जीव-अजीव दोनों में पाया जाता है। अत: उसे सबसे अन्त में कहा है।
विशेषार्थ - व्याकरण का नियम है कि जिसमें अल्पाक्षर हों उसे पहले रखना। इसी कारण अल्पाक्षर वाला एवं पूज्य-प्रधान होने से ज्ञान को पहले कहा है। पश्चात् अनुक्रम से दर्शन व सम्यक्त्व को कहकर अन्त में वीर्य को रखा, क्योंकि जीव में ज्ञानादिक शक्ति तथा पुद्गल में शरीरादिरूप शक्ति है। इस प्रकार ज्ञानादि का आवरण अर्थात् ज्ञानावरण, दर्शनावरण एवं मोहनीय और अन्तराय का अनुक्रम जानना।
यद्यपि अन्तरायकर्म घातिया है तथापि उसे अघातिया के अन्त में क्यों कहा? इसका समाधान अगली गाथा द्वारा करते हैं -
घादीवि अघादि वा. णिस्सेसं घादणे असक्कादो।
णामतियणिमित्तादो, विग्धं पढिदं अघादिचरिमझि ॥१७ ।। अर्थ - अन्तरायकर्म यद्यपि घातिया है, तथापि अघातियाकर्मों के समान जीव के गुणों को पूर्णरूप से घातने में समर्थ नहीं है। नाम, गोत्र और वेदनीय के निमित्त से ही अन्तरायकर्म अपना कार्य करता है; इसी कारण उसे अघातिया कर्मों के अन्त में कहा है। अथानन्तर अन्य कर्मों का क्रम कहते हैं -
आउबलेण अवढिदि, भवस्स इदि णाममाउपुव्वं तु।
भवमस्सिय णीचुच्चं, इदि गोदं णामपुव्वं तु ॥१८॥ अर्थ – आयुकर्म के निमित्त से भव में स्थिति होती है। इसलिए नामकर्म से पूर्व आयुकर्म को कहा है और भव के आश्रय से ही नीचपना अथवा उच्चपना होता है इसलिए नामकर्म को गोत्रकर्म के पहले कहा है।

**Sammattamado viriyami, jeevajeevagadami di charime.** ||16||

**Aubleena avadhiddi, bhavassi idi naamamaupuvvam tu.**
**Bhavamassia nichuccham, idi godam naamapuvvam tu.** ||18||

**Meaning:** Due to Ayukarma, there is existence in Bhava. Therefore, Ayukarma is mentioned before Namakarma, and due to the support of Bhava, there is lowliness or highness. Therefore, Namakarma is mentioned before Gotrakarma.
