अर्थ - पुद्गलद्रव्य का कर्मरूप होकर आत्मप्रदेशों के साथ संश्लेषसम्बन्ध होना बन्ध है। कर्मों का जो स्थिति व अनुभाग पूर्व में था उसमें वृद्धि का होना उत्कर्षण कहलाता है। जो प्रकृति पूर्व में .. बंधी थी उसका अन्य प्रकृति रूप होकर परिसर करना अर्थात् उस प्रकृति परमाणुओं का अन्य प्रकृति रूप होना प्रकृति संक्रमण है। कर्मों की स्थिति व उनका अनुभाग जो पूर्व में था उसको कम करना (घटाना) अपकर्षण कहलाता है। उदयावली के बाहर स्थित द्रव्य को अपकर्षण-करण के बल से उदावली में लाना उदीरणा कहलाती हैं। जिन प्रकृतियों के निषेकों का उदयकाल नहीं आया अर्थात् उदयावली से उनका अधिककाल है सो उनकी स्थिति को घटाकर जो निषेक आवलीमात्र काल में उदय में आवें उनमें उनके परमाणुओं का मिलाना सो उनके साथ ही उनका उदय होवे, वह उदीरणा है। अस्तित्व अर्थात् पुद्गलों का कर्मरूप रहना सत्त्व कहलाता है। कर्मों का अपनी पूर्वबद्ध स्थितिबन्ध के अनुसार उदय को प्राप्त होना उदय कहलाता है, ऐसा जिनेन्द्रदेव ने कहा है। जो कर्म परमाणु उदीरणा को प्राप्त होने में समर्थ न हो उसे उपशान्तकरण कहते हैं तथा जो कर्मपरमाणु उदयावली को प्राप्त करने में तथा अन्य प्रकृति रूप संक्रमण करने में समर्थ नहीं होता उसे निधति कहते हैं और जो कर्मपरमाणु उदयावली को प्राप्त करने में तथा अन्य प्रकृति रूप संक्रमण करने में अथवा उत्कर्षण- अपकर्षण करने में समर्थ नहीं होता उसे निकाचित कहते हैं !
विभिन्न ग्रन्थों में दस करणों के लक्षण इस प्रकार हैं
बन्ध - "बंधो णाम दुभावपरिहारेण एयत्तावत्तो" अर्थात् द्वित्व का त्याग करके एकत्व की प्राप्ति का नाम बन्ध है ।" "एकीभावो बन्धः " अर्थात् एकीभाव (जीवकर्म की एकरूपता) होने को बन्ध कहते हैं। "जीव-कम्माणं मिच्छत्तासंजमकसायजोगेहिं एयत्तपरिणामो बंधो" अर्थात् जीव और कर्मों का मिथ्यात्व, असंयम, कषाय और योगों से जो एकत्वपरिणाम होता है उसे बन्ध कहते हैं। ३ "जम्मि अणियोगद्दारे कम्मइवग्गणाए पोग्गलक्खंधाणं कम्मपरिणामपाओग्गाभावेणावट्टिदाणं जीवपदेसेहिं सह मिच्छत्तादिपच्चयवसेण संबंधो पयडिहिदि - अणुभाग - पदेसभेयभिण्णो परूविज्जइ तमणुयोगद्दारं बंधोत्ति भण्णदे।" अर्थात् जिस अनुयोगद्वार में कार्मणवर्गणा के कर्मरूप परिणमन करने की योग्यता को प्राप्त हुए पुद्गलस्कंधों का जीवप्रदेशों के साथ मिथ्यात्वादि के निमित्त से प्रकृति, स्थिति, अनुभाग और प्रदेश के भेद से चार प्रकार का सम्बन्ध कहा जाता है उस अनुयोगद्वार को 'बन्ध' कहते हैं। " "श्लेषलक्षणः बन्धः " । "
