प्रवशिष्ट टीका अन्तिम वय श्रुत सेवा : स्व. गुरुवर रतनचन्द मुख्तार वृद्धावस्था में तो प्रविष्ट थे ही, देहदशा भी कृश थी तथापि अपनी आयु के अन्तिम दो सवा दो वर्षों में भी वे ग्रन्थों की टीका करने में व्यस्त रहे थे। कर्मकाण्ड ( टीकाकर्त्री प्रा. श्रादिमतीजी) का सम्पादन कार्य श्रापने सन् १६७८ में प्रानन्दपुर कालू में संघ साथ १०-१२ घण्टे नित्य बंठकर २८ दिन में पूरा किया था । मध्यावधि में दि. ९.६.७८ को मुझे पत्र लिखा "रिस्क लेकर इतना परिश्रम कर रहा हूँ जिससे मेरे जाने से पूर्व कर्मकाण्ड का कार्य पूरा हो जाये । यदि ग्रायु शेष रही तो फिर लब्धिसार तथा जीवकाण्ड का कार्य भी करूंगा।"
दि. १३.२.७० को सहारनपुर से आपने लिखा- "मेरा स्वास्थ्य पूर्व की अपेक्षा सुधार पर है किन्तु माइण्ड एण्ड हार्ट अभी तक अपना कार्य पूर्णरूपेण नहीं कर पाते । एक घण्टे पश्चात् माइण्ड थक जाता है तथा सिरदर्द होने लगता है। देह में रक्तसंचार कम हो रहा है। डॉक्टर पूर्ण विश्राम के लिए कहते हैं किन्तु वह मुझसे नहीं होता । कर्मकाण्ड की प्रेसकापी जाँच रहा हूँ, बीच-बीच में घल आदि के प्रमाण देता जाता हूँ । कार्य तो करना ही है, मेरी तो जिनवाणी स्वयं रक्षा करेगी। मुझे उसकी चिन्ता नहीं, जीवन की सफलता श्रुतसेवा में ही है ।" यही सब ३१.३.७६ को आपने फिर लिखा था ।
दि. २६.१०.७९ को मुझ पाभर को उठाते हुए आपने लिखा- "अब तो प्राशा है कि आप करणानुयोग के ग्रन्थों का उद्धार करेंगे। मेरी यह पर्याय तो समाप्त होने वाली है। ज्ञान का फल संयम है, सो वह तो मुझे प्राप्त हुआ नहीं। मैंने धवल ग्रन्थ के श्राधार पर जीवकाण्ड की टीका लिखनी प्रारम्भ कर दी है। यदि यह पूर्ण न हो सकी तो आपको पूर्ण करनी होगी । अब ५-६ घण्टे से afe कार्य करने की शक्ति नहीं रही। मेरे देह विसर्जन के बाद मेरे वाला गोम्मटसार जीवकाण्ड व पंचसंग्रह श्री विनोदकुमार जी आपके पास भेज देंगे । अन्त समय में परिणाम ठीक रहें, यही वीर प्रभु से प्रार्थना है ।'
दि. ३.११.८० को आपका पत्र आया - "जीवकाण्ड की ६५१ वीं गाथा की टीका लिखी जा रही है । ८६-८७ गाथाएं शेष हैं। पत्नी के वायुरोग के कारण घुटनों टांगों तथा हाथों ने ठीक प्रकार से कार्य करना छोड़ दिया है. आटा गूंदने में भी कष्ट होता है । उसकी आँख भी एक हो काम कर रही है । अब वह दिन श्राने वाला है कि भोजन भी नहीं बना सकेगी। मैं यह चाहता हूँ कि आप जीवकाण्ड - आहार मार्गणा की टीका लिख कर भेजने का कष्ट करें किन्तु जो भी लिखा जावे, वह ग्रन्थों के आधार पर लिखा जावे । ग्रन्थान्तरों के नाम व पृष्ठ संख्या भी साथ में लिख दी जावे ।"

If it cannot be completed, you will have to complete it. Now I don't have the strength to work for 5-6 hours. After my body is disposed of, my Gommatasara Jivakanda and Panchasangraha will be sent to you by Shri Vinodkumarji. May the outcome be good in the end, this is my prayer to Veer Prabhu."
On 3.11.80, your letter came - "The commentary on the 651st verse of Jivakanda is being written. 86-87 verses are left. Due to my wife's respiratory illness, her knees, legs and hands have stopped working properly. She has difficulty even kneading dough. Her one eye is also working. I want you to write and send the commentary on Jivakanda - Ahar Margana, but whatever is written, it should be written based on the scriptures.
