वाला है वह परमार्थ ( मुख्य, निश्चय) काल है ।"
णिजन्त 'वर्त' धातु से कर्म या भात्र में 'युद्ध' प्रत्यय करने पर स्त्रीलिंग में वर्तना शब्द बनता है; जिसकी व्युत्पत्ति 'वर्त्यते' या 'वर्तनमात्रम्' होती है । यद्यपि धर्मादिक द्रव्य अपनी नवीन पर्याय उत्पन्न करने में स्वयं प्रवृत्त होते हैं तो भी वह पर्याय बाह्य सहकारी कारण के बिना नहीं हो सकती है, इसलिए पर्याय को प्रवतनिवाला काल है, ऐसा मान कर वर्तना काल का उपकार है।
