THIS DICTIONARY A concise form of Encyclopedia For about 15 years, I had been eager to have compilation of such a dictionary in which the translation and meaning of specified Jain terminolagy may be available so that the ancient treatises composed in Hindi and Sanskrit may easily be translated from Hindi to English by anybody On the intense inspiration of venerable Ganini Gyanmati Mataji, 13 years ago I started the study of Tattvartha Sutra translated into English by Justice J L. Jan A that lihid
o lhar avsonary (English to Hindi) to understand the meanings of the words not familiar to me. By compiling many words of this English Tattvartha Sutra in a note book, I arranged them alphabetically also. Later I went through the English translation of the 'Sarvarthasiddhi Teeka (a commentary book) and by reading this was very pleased that many writers had rightly used their knowledge of English language. Thereafter going through many books of Jain literature written in English by Barrister Champatrai Jain, Pandit Sumerchandra Jain Diwakar, Dr. Manikchand Jaln (Khandwa) and Shri J. L. Jaini etc., i felt great pleasure. But whenever I read them, I had to take the help of Dictiunary, therefore, I felt a great need of a Dictionary of Jain terminology Beacuse of my academic background only upto 10th standard, I was not having good command over English, but due to my own interest, I had been endeavouring for this and this was the reason that I firstly composed worshipping hymns in English in 1990 on Ganini Shri Gyanmati Mataji, in 1992 on Lord Mahavir and in 1997 on Lord Rishabhdev. All these compo sitions written in simple English were appreciated by devotees and this increased my enthusiasm. So, I started to compose religious hymns and other ilterary work in English. As I had to find words more often from General Dictionary in all these works, my wish became stronger that there should be a special Hindi to English Dictionary for about whole Jain terminology so that we may use the words appropriately in the English translation of Jain literature.
Besides this, I noticed that now-a-days while doing the English translation, some translators translate even the Proper Nouns or Names also, as 'Luminous' for Dhavla (1991), "Victorious Luminous' for Jai Dhavia (ECT), 'Octad of Thousand' for Ashtsahastri (3141), 'Sun for the lotus of the objects of knowledge' for Prameya Kamai Martand (THUATHYGros), 'Garlands of Victory' for Jaimala (TREHTCHI) etc. but it is quite possible that by such a method, the reader may understand the opposite
