आदिपुराणम् बलं विभज्य भूभाग विशाले सकलं समे । प्रकृत्य मकरव्यहं विरोधिबलघस्मरः ॥१०॥ उच्चैरूजिततूयोवनियन्निषभीषणः । जितमेघस्वरो गर्जन रंजे मेघस्वरस्तदा ।।११०॥ चक्रव्यूह विभक्तामभरिसाधनमध्यगः । अर्ककीर्तिश्च भाति स्म परिवेषाहि तावत् ॥११॥ क्रुद्वाः खे खेचराधीशाः सुनमिप्रमुखाः पृथक् । गरुडव्यूहमापाद्य तस्थुश्चक्रिसुताज्ञया ॥१२॥ अष्टचन्द्राः खगाः ख्याताश्चक्रिणः परितः सुतम् । शरीररक्षकत्वेन भेजुर्विद्यामदाद्धताः ॥११३॥ अकालप्रलयारम्भ जम्भिताम्भोदगर्जितम् । निर्जित्य तूर्णं तूर्याणि दध्वनुः सेनयोः समम् ॥११४॥ धानुष्कर्मार्ग जैर्मार्गः समरस्य पुरस्सरैः । प्रवर्तयितुमारेभे घोरघोषैः सबल्गितम् ॥११॥ संग्रामनाटकारम्भसूत्रधारा धनुर्धराः। रणरङ्ग विशन्ति स्म गर्जत्तूर्यपुरस्परम् ॥११६॥ आबध्य स्थानकं पूर्व रणरङ्गे धनुधं रैः । पुष्पाञ्जलिरिव व्यस्नो' मुक्तः शितशरोत्करः ॥११७ ॥ तीक्ष्णा मर्माण्यभिघ्नन्तः पूर्व कलहकारिणः । पश्चात्प्रवेशिनः शश्वत् खलकल्या धनुर्धतः ॥१८॥
उद्धत हो रहा है ऐसा मेघप्रभ नामका विद्याधर भी अपने आधे विद्याधरोंके साथ निकला ॥१०८।। जो शत्रुओंकी सेनाको नष्ट करनेवाला है, बड़े-बड़े बाजोंके समूहसे निकलती हुई आवाजके समान भयंकर है और जिसने अपनी आवाजसे मेघोंकी गर्जनाको भी जीत लिया है ऐसा जयकुमार उस समय विशाल और सम ( ऊँची-नीची रहित ) पृथ्वीपर अपनी समस्त सेनाका विभाग कर तथा मकरव्यूहको रचना कर गर्जता हुआ बहुत ही अधिक सुशोभित हो रहा था ।।१०६-११०।। उधर चक्रव्यूहकी रचना कर अपनी बहुत भारी सेनाके बीच खड़ा हुआ अर्ककीर्ति भी परिवेषसे युक्त सूर्यके समान सुशोभित हो रहा था ।। १११ ॥ क्रोधित हुए सुनमि आदि विद्याधरोंके अधिपति भी गरुड़व्यूहकी रचना कर चक्रवर्तीके पुत्र--अर्ककीतिको आज्ञासे आकाशमें अलग ही खड़े थे ॥११२।। विद्याके मदसे उद्धत हुए आठ चन्द्र नामके प्रसिद्ध विद्याधर शरीररक्षकके रूप में चारों ओरसे अर्ककीर्तिकी सेवा कर रहे थे ॥ ११३ ॥ उन दोनों सेनाओंमें असामयिक प्रलयकालके प्रारम्भमें बढ़ती हुई मेघोंकी गर्जनाको जीतकर शीघ्रशीघ्र एक साथ बहुत-से बाजे बज रहे थे ।।११४॥ युद्धके आगे-आगे जानेवाले और भयंकर गर्जना करनेवाले धनुर्धारी योद्धाओंने बाणों-द्वारा अपना मार्ग बनाना प्रारम्भ किया था। भावार्थ-धनुष चलानेवाले योद्धा बाण चलाकर भीड़को तितर-बितर कर अपना मार्ग बना रहे थे ॥११५।। जो संग्रामरूपी नाटकके प्रारम्भमें सूत्रधारके समान जान पड़ते थे ऐसे धनुषको धारण करनेवाले वीर पुरुष गर्जते हुए बाजोंको आगे कर युद्धरूपी रंगभूमिमें प्रवेश कर रहे थे ।।११६।। धनुष धारण करनेवाले पुरुषोंने रणरूपी रंगभूमिमें सबसे पहले अपना स्थान जमाकर जो तीक्ष्ण बाणोंका समूह छोड़ा था वह ऐसा जान पड़ता था मानो उन्होंने पुष्पांजलि ही बिखेरी हो ॥११७॥ वे धनुषपर चढ़ाये हुए बाण सदा दुष्टोंके समान जान पड़ते थे क्योंकि जिस प्रकार दुष्ट तीक्ष्ण अर्थात् क्रूर स्वभाववाले होते हैं उसी प्रकार वे बाण भी तीक्ष्ण अर्थात् पैने थे, जिस प्रकार दुष्ट मर्मभेदन करते हैं उसी प्रकार बाण भी मर्मभेदन करते थे, जिस प्रकार दुष्ट कलह करनेवाले होते हैं उसी प्रकार बाण भी कलह करनेवाले थे और जिस प्रकार दुष्ट पहले मधुर वचन कहकर फिर भीतर घुस जाते हैं उसी प्रकार वे बाण भी मनोहर शब्द
