आदिपुराणम्
वसन्ततिलकम् भस्यानुसानु सुरपनगखेचराणामा कोडनान्युपवनाति विभान्स्यमूनि । नानालतालयसरःसिकतोच्चयानि नित्यप्रवालकुसुमोज्ज्वलपादपानि ॥१४७॥
मौक्तिकमाला भस्य महाबेपतटम च्छन् मूर्च्छति नानामणिकिरणोधैः । चित्रितमतिर्वियति 'पतङ्गः चित्र पतङ्गच्छविमिह धत्ते ॥१४८॥---
पृथ्वीवृत्तम् मणियुतितान्तरः प्रमुदितोरगन्यन्तरनिरुद्धरविमण्डलैः स्थगितविश्वदिङमण्डलैः । "मरुद्गतिनिवारिभिः सुरवधूमनोहारिभिर्विमाति शिखरधनगिरिरयं नभोलानः ॥१४९॥
चामरवृत्तम् एष मीषणो' महाहिरस्य कन्दरादगिरीषदुन्मिषन्पयोनिधेरिवायत स्तिमिः । "काषपषितान्तिकस्थलस्थगुरुमपादपोरोषशूस्कृतोष्मणा दहत्युपान्तकाननम् ॥१५०॥
छन्दः (?) रस्नालोकैः कृतपर भागे तटमागे सन्ध्यारागे प्रसरति सान्दारुणरागे ।
रौप्योदीनां प्रकृतिविरुद्धामपि धत्ते प्रेक्ष्या लक्ष्मी कनकमयाद्रेरयमद्विः ॥१५१॥ पूँछ फैलाकर नृत्य कर रहे हैं ॥१४६।। जिनमें देव नागेन्द्र और धरणेन्द्र सदा क्रीडा किया करते हैं, जिनमें नाना प्रकार के लतागृह, तालाब और बालूके टीले (क्रीड़ाचल) बने हुए हैं और जिनके वृक्ष कोमल पत्ते तथा फूलोसे निरन्तर उज्ज्वल रहते हैं ऐसे ये उपवन इस पर्वतके प्रत्येक शिखर पर सुशोभित हो रहे हैं ।।१४७।। इधर, यह सूर्य चलता-चलता इस महापर्वतके किनारे आ गया है और वहाँ अनेक प्रकारके मणियोंके किरणसमूहसे चित्र विचित्र होनेके कारण आकाशमें किसी अनेक रजवाले पक्षीकी शोभा धारण कर रहा है ॥१४८। जिनके मध्यभाग रत्नोंकी कान्तिसे व्याप्त हो रहे हैं, जिनमें नागकुमार और व्यन्तर जातिके देव प्रसन्न होकर क्रीड़ा करते हैं, जिन्होंने सूर्यमण्डलको भी रोक लिया है, जिन्होंने सब दिशाएँ आच्छादित कर ली हैं, जो वायुकी गतिको भी रोकनेवाले हैं, देवांगनाओंके मनको हरण करते हैं और आकाशको उल्लंघन करनेवाले हैं ऐसे बड़े-बड़े सघन शिखरोंसे यह पर्वत कैसा सुशोभित हो रहा है ।।१४९।। इधर देखो, जिस प्रकार कोई महामत्स्य समुद्र में से धीरे-धीरे निकलता है उसी प्रकार इस पर्वतकी गफामें-से यह भयंकर अजगर धीरे-धीरे निकल रहा है। इसने अपने शरीरसे समीपवर्ती लता, छोटे-छोटे पौधे और वृक्षोंको पीस डाला है तथा यह क्रोधपूर्वक की गयी फूत्कार की गरमीसे समीपवर्ती वनको जला रहा है. ॥१५०।। इधर इस पर्वतके किनारेपर अनेक प्रकार के रत्नोंके प्रकाशसे मिली हुई संध्याकालकी गहरी ललाई फैल रही है जिससे यह रूपामय होनेपर भी अपनी प्रकृतिसे विरुद्ध सुवर्णमय मेरु पर्वतकी दर्शनीय शोभा धारण कर रहा है

These groves, adorned with the play of the gods, serpent-kings, and earth-kings, are resplendent with various arbors, ponds, and sandhills. The trees are perpetually radiant with delicate leaves and flowers. ||147||
Here, the sun, moving along, has reached the edge of this great mountain, and there, adorned with the rays of various jewels, it assumes the appearance of a bird with many colored wings in the sky. ||148||
This mountain, whose interior is filled with the brilliance of jewels, where serpent-princes and Vyantara gods play joyfully, has stopped the sun's disc, covered all directions, and is resplendent with dense peaks that obstruct the wind, captivate the minds of celestial maidens, and transcend the sky. ||149||
Behold, just as a great fish emerges slowly from the ocean, so too, this terrible serpent emerges slowly from the caves of this mountain. It has crushed the nearby creepers, small plants, and trees with its body, and with the heat of its angry breath, it is burning the nearby forest. ||150||
Here, on the edge of this mountain, the deep red of the evening, mixed with the light of various jewels, is spreading, and this mountain, though beautiful in form, is assuming the appearance of the golden Mount Meru, which is contrary to its nature.
