યોગદષ્ટિસમુચ્ચય સંસાર જ મહા વ્યાધિ છે, જન્મ મૃત્યુ વિકાર;
તીવ્ર રાગાદિ વેદના, ચિત્ર મેહ કરનાર, ૧૮૮ અર્થ:–ભવ જ મહાવ્યાધિ છે. તે જન્મ-મરણરૂપ વિકારવાળો છે, વિચિત્ર મેહ ઉપજાવનાર અને તીવ્ર રાગાદિ વેદનાવાળે છે.
વિવેચન આ ભવ-સંસાર એ જ મહાવ્યાધિ છે. તે કેવો છે? જન્મ-મરણરૂપ વિકારવાળે છે, ઉપલક્ષણથી જરા આદિ વિકારવાળો છે; મિથ્યાત્વના ઉદયભાવથી વિચિત્ર પ્રકારને મેહ ઉપજાવનારો છે; તથા સ્ત્રી આદિના આસક્તિ ભાવથી તીવ્ર રાગાદિ વેદનાવાળે છે. ઉપરમાં જે વ્યાધિની વાત કહી તે વ્યાધિ કયો? તેની અહીં ગ્રંથકાર મહર્ષિએ જ સ્પષ્ટતા કરી છે. પરમાર્થથી જોઈએ તે આ જગતમાં મોટામાં મોટો જે કઈ વ્યાધિ હોય, તે તે આ ભવ એટલે સંસાર જ છે. આ સંસારને મહારેગની ઉપમા બરાબર ઘટે છે; કારણ કે ચિહ્નથી, સ્વરૂપથી, કારણથી, વિકૃતિથી, ચિકિત્સાથી, પરિણામ આદિથી બન્નેનું અનેક પ્રકારે સામ્ય છે. તે આ પ્રકારે –
રોગ જેમ મનુષ્યના શરીર પર આક્રમણ કરી તેને તરફથી ઘેરી લે છે, તેમ ભવરેગ આત્માના જ્ઞાનમય શરીર પર આક્રમણ કરી એને ચોપાસથી ઘેરી લે છે. રોગ
જેમ શરીરના પરમાણુએ પરમાણુમાં વ્યાપ્ત થઈ પિતાની અસર નીપભવરેગનું જાવે છે, તેમ ભવરગ આત્માના પ્રદેશ પ્રદેશમાં વ્યાપી જઈ પોતાની આક્રમણ અસર નીપજાવે છે. રોગ જેમ શરીરની શક્તિને ક્ષીણ કરી નાંખે છે,
નર–તેજ ઉડાડી દે છે, રક્ત-માંસ આદિ ધાતુઓને શોષી લે છે, તેમ ભવરોગ પણ આત્માની અનંત શક્તિને ક્ષીણ કરી નાંખે છે, આત્માનું નૂર-તેજ ઉડાડી દે છે, જ્ઞાન-દર્શનાદિ આત્મસ્વભાવરૂપ ધાતુઓને શોષી લે છે. રોગ જેમ દોષપ્રકોપ કરે છે, તેમ ભવરોગ રાગદ્વેષાદિ દેષનો પ્રકેપ કરે છે. રોગ જેમ મનુષ્યને પથારીવશ કરી પરાધીન ને પાંગળ કરી મૂકે છે, તેમ ભવરોગ આત્માને શરીર-શસ્યામાં સુવડાવી પર પુદ્ગલ વસ્તુને આધીન પાંગળો કરી મૂકે છે. રોગ જેમ માણસની આખી સકલ એવી ફેરવી નાંખે છે કે તેનું ઓળખાણ પડવું મુશ્કેલ થઈ પડે છે, તેમ ભવરોગ આત્માની અસલ સીકલ એવી પલટાવી નાંખે છે કે તેનું ઓળખાણ થવું કઠિન હોય છે.
