Gadasthi Samuchaya
Even the great and wise people get tired, so what can be said about the lowly like me? How can the crow enter the palace of the king? "The ocean of omniscience, with its infinite modes, meanings, causes, viewpoints, and words - it is difficult for the unlearned to enter that city of the omniscient doctrine, adorned with jewels. Then I, who am devoid of the wealth of scriptural knowledge and intellect, and who wishes to enter there without considering my incapacity, am like a poor beggar trying to collect the scattered grains of a ruined heap! When we hear about the infinite ocean of knowledge possessed by the great sages of the past, who had the knowledge of the Twelve Angas even from a mere three-line verse, then I, the present-day person called a 'bearer of the scriptures and traditions', who is not even a drop in comparison, where is my place in that?"
The scriptures, in which the profound sweet nectar flows,
Where the mighty waves of the principles surge,
The beautiful confluence of the rivers of logic,
Who can describe that ocean of scriptural knowledge?
Whose intellect's movement cannot be grasped even by the wise,
Where the intellect of the learned is completely confined,
Seeing which, the jewel-like qualities captivate the mind -
Who can describe that beautiful ocean of scriptural knowledge?
Thus, my limited intellect cannot fathom the infinite ocean of scriptures, so it is appropriate here to accept the authority of those saintly persons who are agreeable. What they have said must be true, and what they have practiced should be followed to the best of one's ability. Their words alone are worthy of contemplation and acceptance; therefore, it is not appropriate for me to make any false or exaggerated claims. "The path taken by the great is the right path" - following the path shown by the great ones is my duty, and by doing so with this attitude, I will surely attain good reputation.
