Yogadrishtisamuccaya "I have abandoned my own beautiful form and have become engrossed in the pudgala (matter), which has brought the thirst for sense objects; I shall bind the asrava (influx of karmic matter) and cultivate my own inclination towards the vibhava (delusion)... I have forgotten, I shall give up the defect of false belief..." - Thus the mumukshu (seeker of liberation) yogi, seeing his own faults and realizing the inadequacy and shortcomings in his father's religious practices, develops a sense of detachment towards his father. Does this not indicate the weakness, laxity, negligence, and lack of virtues in this life? But this distress arises, in which there is only absence of hatred towards those virtuous people, and not at all any feeling of jealousy or envy. Towards those praiseworthy persons, there is no arising of jealousy or malice, but only a feeling of delight. Not only that, instead of being disappointed by the lack of virtues in the father, he gets inspiration to progress further by observing the excellent qualities of the great persons. Thus, "One should revere more the virtuous... the mind sees its own deficiency..." (Sūkṣmāvattarī 2-3)
दुःखरूपो भवः सर्व उच्छेदोऽस्य कुतः कथम् । चित्रा सतां प्रवृत्तिश्च साशेषा ज्ञायते कथम् ॥४७॥ The entire samsara (cycle of rebirth) is of the nature of duhkha (suffering), from where and how can its uchchheda (destruction) happen? And the wonderful, extraordinary activities of the sants (enlightened beings) - how can they all be known? (47)
Further, this drishti-vala (one with this perspective) yogi considers the entire samsara as full of duhkha, because birth, old age, disease, death, etc. afflictions make this samsara full of adhi (mental), vyadhi (physical), and upadhi (external) sufferings. Uchchheda - the destruction of this samsara, kutah - from where, katha - how? By cultivating qualities like ksanti (forbearance), etc. Chitra - the wonderful, extraordinary, pravarti - activities, satam - of the sants, sa-ashesa - all of them, jnayate - how can they be known? By abandoning others.
