ग्रन्थनामकं अध्ययन अनुवाद - साधु जब किसी के प्रश्न का उत्तर दे तो वह शास्त्र के उत्तर को आच्छादित न करे, छिपावे नहीं तथा अपसिद्धान्त को आश्रित कर शास्त्र की व्याख्या न करे । अपने को बड़ा विद्वान तथा तपश्चरणशील मानता हुआ अभिमान न करे । अपने गुणों का प्रकाशन न करे । यदि सुनने वाला व्यक्ति उस द्वारा निरूपित अर्थ को समझ नहीं पाये तो उसका परिहास न करे एवं साधु किसी को आशीर्वाद न दे ।
टीका - स च प्रश्नमुदाहरन् कदाचिदन्यथापि ब्रूयादतस्तत्प्रतिषेधार्थमाह-'स' प्रश्नस्योदाहर्ता सर्वार्थाश्रयत्वाद्रत्नकरण्डकल्पः कुत्रिकापणकल्पो वा चतुर्दशपूर्विणामन्यतरो वा कश्चिदाचार्या दिभिः प्रतिभानवान्अर्थ विशारदस्तदेवंभूतः कुतश्चिन्निमित्तात् श्रोतुः कुपितोऽपि सूत्रार्थं 'न छादयेत्' नान्यथा व्याख्यानयेत् स्वाचार्य वा नापलपेत् धर्मकथां वा कुर्वन्नार्थं छादयेद् आत्मगुणोत्कर्षाभिप्रायेण वा परगुणान्न छादयेत् तथा परगुणान्न लूषयेत्-न विडम्बयेत् शास्त्रार्थंवा नापसिद्धान्तेन व्याख्यानयेत् तथा समस्तशास्त्रवेत्ताऽहं सर्वलोकविदितःसमस्तसंशयापनेता न मत्तुल्योहेतुयुक्तिभिरर्थप्रतिपादयिते त्येवमात्मकं मानम्-अभिमानं गर्वं न सेवेत, नाप्यात्मनो बहुश्रुतत्वेन तपस्वित्वेन वा प्रकाशनं कुर्यात्, च शब्दादन्यदपि पूजासत्कारादिकं परिहरेत्, तथा न चापि 'प्रज्ञावान' सश्रुतिकः 'परिहासं' केलिप्रायं ब्रूयाद् यदिवा कथञ्चिदबुध्यमाने श्रोतरितदुपहासप्रायं परिहासंन विदध्यात् तथा नापि चाशीर्वादं बहुपुत्रो बहुधनो (बहुधर्मो) दीर्घायुस्त्वं भूया इत्यादि व्यागृणीयात्, भाषासमितियुक्तेन भाव्यमिति ॥१९॥
टीकार्थ - प्रश्न का उत्तर देते हुए साधु कभी अन्यथा-प्रतिकूल उत्तर न दे । इस हेतु उसका निषेध करते हुए सूत्रकार प्रतिपादित करते हैं-प्रश्न का उत्तर देने वाला साधु समस्त पदार्थों का आश्रय-विज्ञाता होने के कारण चाहे रत्नपूर्ण मंजूषा के तुल्य हो अथवा कुत्रिकापण-जिस बाजार में तीनों लोकों के पदार्थ प्राप्त होते हों, उसके समान वह सब कुछ जानने वाला असाधारण ज्ञानी हो, अथवा चतुर्दशपूर्वघरों में से कोई एक हो अथवा आचार्य आदि की, शिक्षा से प्रतिभाशाली हो-विशिष्ट प्रज्ञायुक्त हो, पदार्थों के ज्ञान में विशारदनिपुण या निष्णात हो, उसे यदि किसी कारणवश श्रवण कर्ता पर क्रोध आये तो भी वह सूत्र के अर्थ को छादित न करे-उसे न छिपाये, उसकी अन्यथा व्याख्या न करे । अथवा वह व्याख्या करते समय अपने आचार्य का अपलाप न करे । धर्मकथा-धर्मोपदेश करता हुआ वह अपने गुणों की उत्कृष्टता-विशेषता ज्ञापित करने के अभिप्राय से अन्य के गुणों को छादित न करे-दूषित न करे, विडम्बित न करे अपसिद्धान्त द्वारा शास्त्र के अर्थ की व्याख्या न करे । “मैं समस्त शास्त्रों का वेत्ता हूं, सर्वलोक विदित हूं, समस्त संदेहों का अपनेतानाशक हूं, मेरे तुल्य तर्क युक्ति पूर्वक तत्त्वों की व्याख्या करने वाला दूसरा नहीं है" ऐसा अभिमान या गर्व न करे । वह अपने आपको बहुश्रुत के रूप में तथा तपश्चरणशील के रूप में प्रकाशित-ख्यापित न करे । 'च' शब्द से यह सूचित है कि अन्य प्रकार के प्रतिष्ठा, सत्कार, सम्मान आदि का वह परिहार करे । प्रज्ञावानसश्रुतिक, शास्त्रज्ञानी साधु परिहास या मजाक पूर्ण बातें न करे । किसी कारणवश सुनने वाला पुरुष यदि किसी पदार्थ-तत्त्व को न समझ पाये तो वह उसका उपहास न करे । तथा तम्हारे बहत से पत्र हों. तम्हारा धन बढे. तुम्हारी आयु लम्बी हो, इस प्रकार वह किसी को आशीर्वाद न दे । वह भाषा-समिति से अन्वित रहे ।
भूताभिसंकाइ दुगुंछमाणे, ण णिव्वहे मंतपदेण गोयं ।। ण किंचि मिच्छे मणुए पयासुं, असाहुधम्माणि ण संवएज्जा ॥२०॥ छाया - भूताभिशंकया जुगुप्समानो, न निर्वहेन्मन्त्रपदेन गोत्रम् ।
न किञ्चिदिच्छेन्मनुजाः प्रजासु, असाधुधर्मान्न संवदेत् ॥
