श्री मार्गाध्ययन प्राणी मोक्ष विषयक समस्त सामग्री स्वायत्त कर इस अत्यन्त दुष्तर संसार सागर को पार कर जाताहै । वास्तव में संसार सागर को पार करने की सामग्री ही दुष्प्राप्य है-बड़ी कठिनाई से प्राप्त होती है । कहा जाता हैमनुष्य जन्म, आर्यक्षेत्र, उत्तम जाति, उत्तम कुल, उत्तम रूप, स्वस्थ शरीर, आयु एवं बुद्धि धर्म श्रवण का अवसर, धर्म पर श्रद्धा एवं संयम-शुद्ध चारित्र इनका प्राप्त होना बड़ा दुर्लभ है।
तं मग्गं णुत्तरं सुद्धं, सव्वदुक्खविमोक्खणं । जाणासि णं जहा भिक्खू ! तं णो बूहि महामुणी ॥२॥ छाया - तं मार्गमनुत्तरं शुद्धं सर्वदुःखविमोक्षणम् ।
जानासि वै यथा भिक्षो ! तं नो ब्रूहि महामुने ॥ __ अनुवाद - जम्बू स्वामी श्री सुधर्मा स्वामी से निवेदित करते है कि महामुने ! आप अनुत्तर-सबसे उत्तम-सब दुःखों से विमुक्त कराने वाले मार्ग को जिसे भगवान महावीर ने उदिष्ट किया, जानते हैं, हमें वह बतलाये ।
टीका - स एव प्रच्छकः पुनरप्याह-योऽसौ मार्गः सत्त्वहिताय सर्वज्ञेनोपदिष्टोऽशेषैकान्तकौटिल्यवक्र (ता) रहितस्तं मार्ग नास्योत्तरः-प्रधानोऽस्तीत्यनुत्तरस्तं शुद्धः-अवदातो निर्दोषः पूर्वापरव्याहतिदोषापगमात्सावद्यानुष्ठानोपदेशाभावाद्वा तमिति, तथा सर्वाणि-अशेषाणि बहुभिर्भवैरूपचितानि दुःखकारणत्वादुःखानि-कर्माणि तेभ्यो 'विमोक्षणं'-विमोचकं तमेवंभूतं मार्गमनुत्तरं निर्दोष सर्व दुःखक्षयकारणं हे भिक्षो ! यथा त्वं जानीषे 'ण' मिति वाक्यालङ्कारे तथा तं मार्ग सर्वज्ञ प्रणीतं 'नः' अस्माकं हे महामुने ! 'ब्रूहि' कथयेति ॥२॥
___टीकार्थ – जिन्होंने पहले पूछा, वे ही फिर पूछते हैं-केवलज्ञानी भगवान महावीर ने सब प्राणियों के हित के लिये जो मार्ग बतलाया वह सम्पूर्ण-परिपूर्ण या किसी भी कमी से रहित है, निश्चित रूप से वक्रता वर्जित है । उस मार्ग से उत्तर-बढ़कर कोई मार्ग नहीं है, इसलिये वह अनुत्तर है-दोष रहित है । वह पूर्वा पर-आगे पीछे की परस्पर विरुद्ध बात नहीं कहता । वह सावद्य-पापयुक्त कार्यों का उपदेश नहीं देता । अनेक जन्मों के उपचित-संचित दुःखोत्पादक, दुःख रूप जोकर्म है उनसे छुटकारा दिलाता है । हे भिक्षो ! हे महामुने! जैसा-जिस प्रकार आप जानते हैं, उसी तरह उस अनुत्तर-सर्वोत्तम, निर्दोष एवं सर्वदुःख नाशक मार्ग को हमें बतलावें ।
जइ णो केइ पुच्छिज्जा, देवा अदुव माणुसा । तेसिं तु कयरं मग्गं, आइक्खेज ? कहाणि णो ॥३॥ छाया - यदि नः केऽपि पृच्छेयु देवा अथवा मनुष्याः ।
तेषान्तु कतरं मार्गमाख्यास्ये कथन नः ॥ अनुवाद - जम्बू स्वामी ने सुधर्मा स्वामी से कहा कि यदि कोई देव या मनुष्य हमसे प्रश्न करें तो हम उन्हें मोक्ष का कौन सा मार्ग बतलाये, आप कहें ।
