कयरे धम्मे अक्खाए, माहणेण मतीमता ? ।
अजुं धम्मं जहातच्चं, जिणाणं तं सुणेह मे ॥१॥ छाया - कतरो धर्म आख्यातः, माहनेन मतिमता ।
ऋजु धर्म यथातथ्यं, जिनानां तं शृणुत मे ॥ अनुवाद - माहण-जीवों का हनन न करने का उपदेश देने वाले, तथा मतिमान प्रज्ञाशील-सर्वज्ञ भगवान महावीर स्वामी ने कौन से धर्म का आख्यान-प्रतिपादन किया ? जम्बू स्वामी आदि का वह प्रश्न श्रवण कर सुधर्मा स्वामी कहते हैं कि जिनेश्वरों द्वारा प्रतिपादित उस ऋजु-सरल धर्म को यथावत् रूप में मुझसे सुनो ।
टीका - जम्बूस्वामीसुधर्मस्वामिनमुद्दिश्येदमाह-तद्यथा-'कतरः' किम्भृतो दुर्गतिगमनधरणलक्षणो धर्मः 'आख्यातः' प्रतिपादितो 'माहणेणं' ति मा जन्तून् व्यापादयेत्येवं विनेयेषु वाक् प्रवृत्तिर्यस्यासौ 'माहनो' भगवान् वीरवर्धमानस्वामी तेन ?, तमेव विशिनष्टि-मनुते-अवगच्छति जगत्रयं कालत्रयोपेतं यया सा केवलज्ञानाख्या मतिः सा अस्यास्त्रीस्ति मतिमान् तेन-उत्पन्नकेवलज्ञानेन भगवता, इति पृष्टे सुधर्मस्वाम्याह-रागद्वेषजितो जिनास्तेषां सम्बन्धितं धर्मं 'अंजुम्' इति 'ऋजु माया प्रपञ्चरहितत्पादवक्रं तथा-'जहातच्वं मे' इति यथावस्थितं मम कथयत: शृणुत यूयं, न तु यथाऽन्यैस्तीर्थिकैर्दम्भप्रधानो धर्मोऽभिहितस्तथा भगवताऽपीति पाठान्तरं वा 'जणगा तं सुणेह मे' जायन्त इति जना-लोकास्त एव जनकास्तेषामामन्त्रणं हे जनकाः । तं धर्म शृणुत यूयमिति ॥१॥
टीकार्थ - जम्बू स्वामी श्री सुधर्मा स्वामी को उदिष्ट कर कहते हैं कि प्राणियों का व्यापादन मत करो? इस प्रकार शिष्यों को उपदेश देने वाले भगवान् श्री महावीर ने प्राणियों को दुर्गति में गिरने से बचाने में समर्थ कौन सा धर्म प्रतिपादित किया ? वे प्रभु महावीर कैसे हैं ? भगवान की विशेषताएं बतलाते हुए इस प्रकार प्रतिपादत करते हैं । भूत-बीते हए, भविष्यत्, आगे आने वाले तथा वर्तमान-हो रहे, इन तीनों कालों सहित इन तीनों लोकों को जिससे जाना जाता है उसे मति कहते हैं । वह केवल ज्ञान रूप है । भगवान् महावीर स्वामी ऐसे थे जिन्हें केवल ज्ञान उत्पन्न था । श्री सुधर्मास्वामी कहते हैं कि जिन्होंने राग और द्वेष को जीत लिया, जो राग और द्वेष से अतीत हो गए, ऊँचे उठ गए उन्हें जिन कहते हैं । उनका धर्म माया-छलना प्रपंच आदि से वर्जित होने के कारण ऋजु है-सीधा है । आप लोगों को मैं वह धर्म यथावत रूप में कहता हूँ । आप श्रवण करे । जैसे अन्य धर्मों के तथाकथित तीर्थंकरों ने माया प्रधान धर्म कहा है, भगवान महावीर ने वैसा नहीं कहा । 'जणगातं सुणेह' में ऐसा पाठान्तर प्राप्त होता है । जो उत्पन्न होते हैं, जन्मते हैं, उन्हें जन कहा जाता है । जन के ही साथ में क प्रत्यय होने के कारण जनक रूप है । उन्हें जन समुदाय को सम्बोधित करते हुए कहते हैं कि आप लोग उस धर्म का श्रवण करो ।
