श्री वीर्याध्ययनं ___टीकार्थ - सभी प्राणियों को अपने प्राण प्रिय लगते हैं । अत: साधु किसी भी प्राणी का अतिपातहिंसा न करे । दूसरे द्वारा नहीं दिया गया दांतों को कुरेदने का तिनका तक न ले । माया सहित मृषावाद असत्य भाषण न करे । क्योंकि औरों को ठगने के लिए असत्य भाषण किया जाता है । अतएव माया-छल कपट के बिना वह नहीं होता । इस प्रकार असत्य का मूल कारण माया ही है । कहने का अभिप्राय यह है कि दूसरों की प्रवंचना हेतु जो कपटपूर्ण असत्य भाषण किया जाता है, सूत्रकार यहाँ उसी का निषेध करते हैं । किन्तु संयम की गुप्ति-रक्षण के लिए जो असत्य बोला जाता है उसका निषेध नहीं करते । जैसे आखेटक द्वारा पूछे जाने पर कि क्या आपने मृगों को देखा है, यह कहना कि मृगों को नहीं देखा । यों असत्य कहने पर भी दोषजनक नहीं है । पूर्वकथित सूत्र-चारित्र मूलक स्वभाव ही धर्म है । यहाँ वुसीमओ यह छांदस प्रयोग है, यह ज्ञान आदि वस्तुओं तथा तदयुक्त जनों की ओर संकेत है । अथवा वश्य-आत्मवशग-जितेन्द्रीय का द्योतक है । जो धर्म से सम्बद्ध है।
अतिक्कम्मंति वायाए, मणसा वि न पत्थए । सव्वओ संवुडे दंते, आयाणं सुसमाहरे ॥२०॥ छाया - अतिक्रमन्तु वाचा, मनसाऽपि न प्रार्थयेत् ।
सर्वतः संवृतो दान्त आदानं सुसमाहरेत् ॥ अनुवाद - सर्वतः संवृत-सर्वथा संवर युक्त तथा दान्त-दमनशील इन्द्रियविजेता साधु वचन से या मन से किसी प्राणी को पीड़ा देने की इच्छा न रखे । वह भलीभांति आदान-ग्रहण किये हुए संवर का पालन करे।
टीका - अपिच-प्राणिनामतिक्रम-पीडात्मकं महाव्रतातिक्रमं वा मनोऽवष्टब्धतया परतिरस्कारं वा इत्येवम्भूतमतिक्रमं वाचा मनसाऽपि च न प्रार्थयेत् एतद्द्वयनिषेधे च कायातिक्रमो दूरत एव निषिद्धो भवति, तदेवं मनोवाक्कायैः कृतकारितानुमतिभिश्च नवकेन भेदनातिक्रमं न कुर्यात्, तथा सर्वत:सबाह्याभ्यन्तरतः संवृतोगुप्तः तथा इन्द्रियदमेन तपसा वादान्तः सन् मोक्षस्य 'आदानम्' उपादानं सम्यग्दर्शनादिकं सुष्टूद्युक्तः सम्यग्विस्रोत सिकारहितः 'आहरेत्' आददीत-गृह्णीयादित्यर्थः ॥२०॥ किञ्चान्यत् -
टीकार्थ - प्राणियों का अतिक्रम-उन्हें पीड़ा देना महाव्रतों का उल्लंघन है । साधु ऐसा अतिक्रम तथा अहंकार वश औरों का तिरस्कार न वाणी द्वारा और न मन द्वारा ही करे । इन दोनों-वाणी और मन द्वारा अतिक्रम का निषेध किये जाने से, काय द्वारा अतिक्रम किये जाने का प्रतिषेध सहज ही हो जाता है । इस प्रकार साधु मन, वचन एवं शरीर द्वारा क्रतकारित और अनुमोदित पूर्वक जीव हिंसा आदि पाप न करे । सब प्रकार से बाह्य और आभ्यन्तर रूप से संवृत-संवरयुक्त-जितेन्द्रीय तथा तप से दान्त-दमनशील साधु सम्यक् दर्शन आदि का, जो मोक्षप्रद है, विस्रोतिसिका-दुर्वसना का त्याग कर संयम का सम्यक् पालन करें।
कडं च कज्जमाणं च, आंगमिस्सं च पावगं सव्वं तं पाणु जाणंति, आयगुत्ता जिइंदिया ॥२१॥ छाया - कृतञ्च क्रियमाणञ्च, आगमिष्यच्च पापकम् । सर्व तन्नानुजानन्त्यात्मगुप्ताः जितेन्द्रियाः ॥
