नरकविभक्ति अध्ययनं
अनुवाद पापी जीव ऐसे नरकों में जाते हैं, जहाँ सूर्य नहीं है, घोर परिताप है, जो अंधेरे में भरे हुए हैं, जिन्हें पार करना अत्यन्त दुष्कर है, जो बहुत विशाल है, उपर नीचे और तिर्यक् दिशाओं में सर्वत्र जहाँ आग जलती रहती है ।

टीका न विद्यते सूर्यो यस्मिन् सः असूर्यो - नरको बहलान्धकारः कुम्भिकाकृतिः सर्व एव वा नरकाषासोऽसूर्य इति व्यपदिश्यते, तमेवम्भूतं महाभिताम् अन्धतमसं 'दुष्प्रतरं ' दुरुत्तरं 'महान्तं' विशालं नरकं महापापोदयाद्व्रजन्ति, त, तत्र च नरके ऊर्ध्वमधस्तिर्यक् सर्वत: 'समाहित: ' सम्यगाहितो व्यवस्थापितोऽग्निर्ज्वलतीति, पठ्यते च 'समूसिओ जत्थऽगणी झियाई' यत्र नरके सम्यगूर्ध्वं श्रितः समुच्छ्रितोऽग्निः प्रज्वलित तं तथाभूतं नरकं वाराकाव्रजन्ति इति ॥ १६ ॥ किञ्चान्यत्
टीकार्थ - सूर्य रहित - जिसमें सूर्य नहीं रहता, घोर अंधकार मय, कुम्भिका के सदृश आकार युक्त असूर्य नामक एक नरक है । अथवा सभी नरक असूर्य कहे जाते हैं । पापी प्राणी अपने पाप के उदय के परिणाम स्वरूप ऐसे अत्यधिक तापयुक्त, सघन अंधकार पूर्ण, दुर्गम-दुःख से पार करने योग्य विशाल नरक में जाते हैं । वहाँ ऊपर से नीचे तथा सभी तिरछी दिशाओं में अग्नि प्रज्वलित रहती है। यहाँ 'समूसिओ - समुच्छ्रित पाठ भी प्राप्त होता है । उसके अनुसार वे पापी अभागे प्राणी ऐसे नरक में जाते हैं, जिसमें बहुत ऊपर तक उठी हुई लपटों से युक्त आग जलती रहती है ।

जंसी गुहाए जलणेऽतिउट्टे, अविजाणओ उज्झइ लुत्तपणो । सयो य कलुणं पुण धम्मठाणं, गाढोवणीयं अतिदुक्खधम्मं ॥ १२ ॥

अनुवाद एक ऐसी नरक भूमि है, जिसमें गुफा की आकृति में अग्नि स्थापित है- आग जलती रहती
है, जिसमें पड़े हुए नारकीय जीव आत्मविस्मृत और संज्ञा विहीन होकर जलते हैं, उन्हें अपने आपका जरा भी होश-हवाश नहीं रहता । नरक भूमि अत्यन्त करुणोत्पादक और परिताप पूर्ण स्थान है, अत्यधिक दुःखप्रद है, पाप कर्मों के परिणाम स्वरूप वहाँ जाना पड़ता है I

टीका – 'यस्मिन् ' नरकेऽतिगतोऽसुमान् 'गुहाया' मित्युष्ट्रिकाकृतौ नरके प्रवेशितो 'ज्वलने' अग्नौ 'अतिवृत्तः' अतिगतो वेदनाभिभूतत्वात्स्वकृतं दुश्चरितमजानन् 'लुप्तप्रज्ञः' अपगतावधिविवेको दन्दह्यते, तथा 'सदा' सर्वकालं पुनः करुणप्रायं कृस्नं वा 'धर्मस्थानम्' उष्णस्थानं तापस्थानमित्यर्थः 'गाढं 'ति अत्यर्थम् 'उपनीतं' ढौकितं दुष्कृतकर्मकारिणां यत् स्थानं तत्ते व्रजन्ति, पुनरपि तदेव विशिनष्टि - अतिदुःखरूपो धर्मः स्वभावो यस्मिन्निति, इदमुक्तं भवति - अक्षिनिमेषमात्रमपि कालं न तत्र दुःखस्य विश्राम इति, तदुक्तम्
अच्छिणिमीलणमेत्तं णत्थि सुहं दुक्खमेव पडिबद्धं । णिरए णेरइयाणं अहोणिसं पच्चमाणाणं ॥१॥ ॥१२॥ अपिच
छाया - अक्षिनिमीलनमात्रं नास्ति सुखं दुःखमेव प्रतिवद्धं । निरयैनैरयिकाणां अहर्निशं पच्यमानानाम् ॥१॥ टीकार्थ जिस नरक में गत प्राणी गुफा के आकार में या ऊँट सदृश आकार में स्थित नरक भूमि में प्रविष्ट होकर वहाँ प्रज्वलित आग में जलता हुआ वेदना से अत्यन्त व्यथित होकर अपने पाप को नहीं जानता,
