At the farewell function of Vaishali he expressed his sadness that he would not be able to see me receiving the degree of Ph. D. before his eyes. But this time he was very glad to see his two dear pupils receiving their respective degrees before his eyes. And he was proud of me that I was the first D. Litt. of the Jabalpur University. Good helped us both in gladdening the heart of our severed Guru in this way.
During my stay, he had sometimes discussions with me on social, economic and political matters etc. Once he told me that the people who need more money to maintain themselves physically and mentally are not getting. “But we get more though we do not need it. See how is the economic order of the society.' This remark gives an insight into his heart having a sympathetic feeling for the needy. Another time he told me the untold misery of the Bengalee refuges due to the partition of India. 'I am surprised to see how you, the Bengalees, still survive intellectually, mentally, socially and spiritually after this great misery of partition. There is surely a great spiritual power in your people ‘he said'.
Dr. Jain once warned me about the condition of service in India that one should note that there is only one relation in the service i.e. the relation of the employers and the employees whether one is an officer or professor or any staff in the Government Institution or Private Institution or Factory of Field. Don't you see how the ministers are dropped own from the cabinet unceremoniously?
Now I conclude with a few quotations of his letters written to me, to throw light on his inner soul.
'I am glad to find that by your spiritual strength you are slowly but surely getting a mastery over your bodily ailments and failings, and I am sure you will be soon your normal self again.
‘Dhar, 24-10-1969. I suffered terribly from small-pox in 1969. On hearing this news he wept for me for the so-called intellectual vultures did not come to my help.
