________________ Preface by Professor W. Schubring. The Nagari Text of the Vavahāra Satta has been prepared by me at Hamburg, Germany, as a transcription of my own critical edition published in 1918 as No. I of Vol. XV of "Studies in Oriental Research.” That edition contains, besides, some notes partly based on Malayagiris' Tika (T). The various readings of the four manuscripts oonsulted, among which, the palm leaf manuscript (P) of the Deocan College Library, Poona, of samvat 1934 (No. V 1917 ), deserves special mention, B & b are paper manuscripts of the Government Library, Berlin. The more important of these readings have found place here. Besides, those presented by the printed text edited by Raja Bahadur Lal sukhdev in Hyderabad (Deccan) have been carefully noticed, as this text represents another roduction. These varients are called H. 1919929199 Sale As to its contents & style, the Vayahára sütta is closely related with the Kappasatta publiBished in this series of 1912. Together with the Dasī or Dashashrutaskandha to be edited later on, both texts form & unity under the name Dasakappa-Vavahār. While, under the name of kappa,
