481 105. The minimum duration of the interval (antara) is one antarmuhūrta. 106. The maximum duration of the interval is the duration of the transformation of the upādhi-pudgala. 107. The minimum duration is one antarmuhūrta, and the maximum duration is the duration of the transformation of the upādhi-pudgala.
Specific meaning:
1. A certain restrained (saṃyata) ascetic climbed the upasama-śreṇī, performed the initial act of the avaktavya (inexpressible) udīraṇā (manifestation) at the first moment of the complete subsidence (sarvopaśamana), fell down, and attained the interval (antara). Again, through the very brief duration of one antarmuhūrta, he climbed the upasama-śreṇī, and in the first moment of the final stage of the sūkṣmasāmparāya (subtle equipoise), he became a single-prakṛti udīraka (manifester), and there, in the first moment of his rebirth in the devas, he attained the minimum interval of one antarmuhūrta.
2. The description of the maximum interval is as follows: A certain desired (vivakṣita) being, in the first moment of the remaining half-transformation of the saṃsāra, attained right faith, immediately climbed the upasama-śreṇī, and fell down. He became an avaktavya udīraka in the tenth gunasthāna (spiritual stage) and attained the interval. Thereafter, wandering in saṃsāra for a somewhat less than half-transformation, when the remaining saṃsāra was very little, he again became completely pure, climbed the upasama-śreṇī, and in the first moment of the manifestation of one prakṛti, he attained the maximum interval, which is the duration of the transformation of the upādhi-pudgala.
