## Chapter 58: Explanation of the Increase and Decrease of the Possessions of the States of Transition, Deposition, and Ownership
**593.** Whose is the increase and decrease of laughter, pleasure, and aversion?
**594.** A being who has attained the state of one sense organ, having attained restraint and non-restraint, and restraint many times, and having subdued the passions four times, has gone to the state of one sense organ. Then, having stayed for a time measured by countless parts of a palya-upam, it is born as a sentient being. There, it binds laughter and pleasure by binding the great bond of aversion and sorrow. The binding of laughter and pleasure in the first time period is a binding of the lowest kind, and the decrease is also of the lowest kind. Thus, for one avli, the being that binds laughter and pleasure experiences the lowest decrease of laughter and pleasure.
**595.** In the same way, the increase of laughter and pleasure is also in that time period.
**596.** The increase and decrease of aversion and sorrow should be known in the same way. The only difference is that laughter and pleasure should be bound first. Then, for one avli, the being that binds aversion and sorrow experiences the lowest decrease of aversion and sorrow, and in the time period after that, it experiences the lowest increase of aversion and sorrow.
**597.** The increase and decrease of the female and neuter genders should be known in the same way.
**598.** If you want to know the increase and decrease of the female gender, you should first bind the neuter and male genders, and then bind the female gender. Then, for one avli, the being that binds the female gender experiences the lowest decrease of the female gender, and in the time period after that, it experiences the lowest increase of the female gender.
**599.** If you want to know the increase and decrease of the neuter gender, you should first bind the female and male genders, and then bind the neuter gender. Then, for one avli, the being that binds the neuter gender experiences the lowest decrease of the neuter gender, and in the time period after that, it experiences the lowest increase of the neuter gender.
