Verse 58
The explanation of the terms "utkarshana" (elevation) and "apकर्षण" (reduction) is done through the concept of "atiस्थापना" (superimposition). After the "आवाधाकाल" (period of bondage) has passed, the moment the "प्रदेश" (regions) of the intended "कर्म" (karmic actions) arise, the time period from that moment until one "आवली" (a specific time period) is called "उदयावली" (period of emergence). Within this "उदयावली," all the existing conditions cannot be reduced, increased, or changed in nature. Therefore, "उदयावली" is called "अयोग्य" (incapable) of all "करण" (causes) like "अपवर्तना" (refraction), "उद्वर्तना" (elevation), etc.
Beyond "उदयावली," the "प्रदेश" of the first state of the next consecutive time period are deposited within "उदयावली." There are countless time periods within "उदयावली." To determine where to deposit them, one time period from "उदयावली" should be subtracted and then divided by three. In one of these three parts, the "प्रदेश" of the intended state are deposited. Therefore, this part is called "निक्षेप" (deposition). The "प्रदेश" are not deposited in the remaining two parts, but they are superimposed on the first part. Therefore, these two parts are called "अतिस्थापना" (superimposition).
Thus, the measure of the "जघन्य निक्षेप" (minimum deposition) is one-third more than one time period of "आवली," and the measure of the "जघन्य अतिस्थापना" (minimum superimposition) is the remaining two-thirds of "आवली." When the second consecutive state above "उदयावली" is refracted, the measure of "निक्षेप" increases by one time period. When the third state above "उदयावली" is reduced, the measure of "निक्षेप" remains the same, but the measure of "अतिस्थापना" increases by one time period. In this way, the consecutive states above "उदयावली" should be refracted one time period at a time until the measure of "अतिस्थापना" becomes equal to one full "आवली."
In other words, when the states above "उदयावली" are refracted for a period equal to one-third of "आवली," the measure of "अतिस्थापना" becomes one full "आवली." Until the measure of "अतिस्थापना" becomes one "आवली," the measure of "निक्षेप" remains the same as mentioned earlier. After this, when the states above are refracted, the measure of "अतिस्थापना" remains one "आवली" throughout, but the measure of "निक्षेप" increases with each time period.
The question arises: how far does the measure of "निक्षेप" increase with each time period? The answer is that it increases until the time period of the "कर्मस्थिति" (state of karmic action) minus two "आवली" and one time period. The time period of "कर्मस्थिति" is equal to seventy "कोड़ाकोड़ी सागर" (a vast measure of time). The reason for subtracting two "आवली" and one time period is that the "कर्मस्थिति" cannot be refracted until the "बन्धावली" (period of bondage) has passed. And when the highest, final state is refracted, its substance is deposited in the states below, excluding the "आवली" measure of "अतिस्थापना." Therefore, the states within "अतिस्थापना" are not refracted. Also, the highest state being refracted must be excluded. Thus, the "बन्धावली," "अतिस्थापनावली," and the highest state...
