[Verse 56]
Exposition of Transitory Stages (Samkramasthana) in the Stations of Existence (Sattvasthanani)
1. The twenty-seven prakritis (psychic states) undergo transitory stages (samkrama) in the case of a person.
2. When the right belief (samyaktva) prakrti of a right-believer (samyagdrsti) or a false-believer (mithyadrsti) is reduced to one avali (unit) less than the full complement, then twenty-six prakritis undergo transitory stages along with the twenty-eight prakritis.
3. Or, when a person attains the first right belief (prathamassamyaktva), twenty-five prakritis undergo transitory stages along with the twenty-eight prakritis.
4. The upasama-samyagdrsti (right-believer by suppression) who has not dissociated the anantanubandhi (quasi-passions), attains the sasadana-gunasthana (sixth gunasthana) or the misraguna-sthana (mixed state) of some other person with twenty-eight prakritis, and then twenty-five prakritis undergo transitory stages.
5. The mithyadrsti (false-believer) who has dissociated and then associated the anantanubandhi (quasi-passions), in the first avali (unit), twenty-three prakritis undergo transitory stages along with the twenty-eight prakritis.
6. When the anantanubandhi is dissociated and the charma-pahla (final peeling) transitory stage is attained, with one avali (unit) less, the same transitory stage is attained in that station of existence.
7. The upasama-samyagdrsti (right-believer by suppression) who has dissociated the anantanubandhi, for one avali (unit) period, twenty-one prakritis undergo transitory stages along with the twenty-eight prakritis.
These are the five transitory stages found in the person with twenty-eight prakritis. Now we shall examine the possible transitory stages in the station of existence of twenty-seven prakritis.
1. When the right belief (samyaktva) prakrti of a false-believer (mithyadrsti) with twenty-eight prakritis is aroused, twenty-six prakritis undergo transitory stages.
2. Again, by arousing the samyag-mithyatva (mixed right and wrong belief) in the same person, with one avali (unit) less of the residual gupuchcha (last prakrti), twenty-five prakritis undergo transitory stages along with the twenty-seven prakritis.
Thus, there are two transitory stages, twenty-six and twenty-five prakritis, in the station of existence of twenty-seven prakritis.
Now we shall examine the possible transitory stages in the station of existence of twenty-six prakritis. The anadi-mithyadrsti (beginningless false-believer) or the sadi-mithyadrsti (false-believer with a beginning) with twenty-six prakritis, has one transitory stage of twenty-five prakritis.
No other transitory stages are possible in this case.
Now we shall examine the possible transitory stages in the station of existence of twenty-four prakritis. The samyagdrsti (right-believer) who has dissociated the anantanubandhi (quasi-passions), has one transitory stage of twenty-three prakritis in the station of twenty-four prakritis.
Again, after ascending the upasama-sreni (series of suppressions), when he performs the antarakarana (inner purification), the transitory stage of twenty-two prakritis is found.
Further, after suppressing the napumsaka-veda (neuter sex), the transitory stage of twenty-one prakritis is found.
After suppressing the stri-veda (female sex), the transitory stage of twenty prakritis is found.
When he suppresses the six nokayas (minor passions), the transitory stage of fourteen prakritis is found.
After suppressing the purusa-veda (male sex), the transitory stage of thirteen prakritis is found.
Then, after the suppression of the two middle anger (krodha) passions, the transitory stage of eleven prakritis is found.
After the suppression of the samjvalana-krodha (flaming anger), the transitory stage of ten prakritis is found.
After the suppression of the two middle pride (mana) passions, the transitory stage of nine prakritis is found.
