## Chapter 45: Description of the Transitional Stages in the Marganas
**275** The transitional stage of the **six-natured** being is **six**. Again, upon the subsidence of both **maya** and **kṣaya**, the transitional stage of the **five-natured** being is **seven**. Again, upon the subsidence of **sanjvalana-maya**, the transitional stage of the **four-natured** being is **eight**. Thereafter, upon the subsidence of two types of **lobha**, the transitional stage of the **two-natured** being is **nine**. Thus, these nine transitional stages are found in the **apāgata-vedī** being, who possesses the **twenty-four natures** and has ascended the **śreṇī** along with the **puruṣa-veda**.
The **apāgata-vedī** being, who possesses **twenty-one natures** and ascends the **śreṇī** along with the **puruṣa-veda**, after the **ānupūrva-saṃkramaṇa**, upon the subsidence of the **six no-kṣaya** (**napuṃsaka-veda**, **strī-veda**, and **hāsyādi**), attains the **twelve-natured** transitional stage. Again, upon the subsidence of two types of **krodha**, two types of **māna**, and two types of **maya-kṣaya**, the **nine-natured**, **six-natured**, and **three-natured** transitional stages are attained respectively. Upon adding these four transitional stages to the aforementioned nine transitional stages, the **apāgata-vedī** being attains **thirteen** transitional stages.
Again, upon the **apāgata-vedī** being ascending the **śreṇī** with the **napuṃsaka-veda**, after the **ānupūrva-saṃkramaṇa**, upon the subsidence of the **napuṃsaka-veda** and **strī-veda**, the **eighteen-natured** **apunu-rukta** transitional stage is attained. While descending the **śreṇī**, the same being, upon the **apākṣaṇa** of **nineteen natures** (**twelve kṣaya** and **seven no-kṣaya**), attains the **nineteen-natured** **apunu-rukta** transitional stage. Upon adding these two transitional stages to the aforementioned thirteen, the **apāgata-vedī** being attains **fifteen** transitional stages.
Similarly, the being who possesses **twenty-four natures** and ascends the **śreṇī** with the **napuṃsaka-veda**, attains the **twenty-natured** and **nineteen-natured** **apunu-rukta** transitional stages while ascending and descending respectively. Upon adding these to the aforementioned fifteen, the **apāgata-vedī** being attains **seventeen** transitional stages.
The **kṣapaka** being, who ascends the **śreṇī** with the **puruṣa-veda** or **napuṃsaka-veda**, attains the final **one-natured** **apunu-rukta** transitional stage. Upon adding this to the aforementioned seventeen, the **apāgata-vedī** being attains **eighteen** transitional stages.
The **napuṃsaka-vedī** being has **nine** transitional stages. Out of these, the **six** transitional stages from **twenty-seven** to **twenty-one** are found below the **śreṇī** of the **napuṃsaka-vedī**. Also, the **twenty-natured** transitional stage is found before the **śreṇī**, in comparison to the **ānupūrva-saṃkramaṇa** of the **upśāmaka** who possesses **twenty-one natures**. Again, upon the **kṣapaka** being ascending the **śreṇī** with the **napuṃsaka-veda**, upon the **kṣapaṇa** of the **eight** **madhyama-kṣaya**, the **thirteen-natured** transitional stage is attained. The same being, upon the **ānupūrva-saṃkramaṇa**, also attains the **twelve-natured** transitional stage. Thus, the **napuṃsaka-vedī** being attains the **nine** transitional stages: **twenty-seven**, **twenty-six**, **twenty-five**, **twenty-three**, **twenty-two**, **twenty-one**, **twenty**, **thirteen**, and **twelve**. The attainment of other transitional stages is not possible.
The **strī-vedī** being has **eleven** transitional stages. The pattern of its **nine** transitional stages is similar to that of the **napuṃsaka-vedī**. The difference is that it has two more transitional stages: **nineteen-natured** and **eleven-natured**. This is because, upon the **upśāmaka** and **kṣapaka**, who possess **twenty-one natures**, ascending the **śreṇī** with the **strī-veda** and upon the subsidence and **kṣapaṇa** of the **napuṃsaka-veda**, they attain the **nineteen-natured** and **eleven-natured** transitional stages respectively.
