**Chapter 22] Explanation of the Least and Most Subtle States of Aversion and Sorrow**
**122.** Whose state of aversion and sorrow is the least subtle from the point of view of its origin?
**123.** The being who, with the karma of one sense, came to the state of one sense, and there, attained many times the state of restraint and non-restraint, and the state of restraint. He attained the state of restraint four times. Then he went to the state of one sense. There, he remained for an immeasurable number of time periods, until the time of the cessation of the karmas of restraint was fully exhausted. Then he came to the state of human beings. There, he attained the state of the gods of the Vaimānika realm, having practiced restraint for a period of time equal to the time of the gods of the first koti, and having attained perfect knowledge without any lapse. After being born, he attained the state of the most subtle karmic afflictions. After being born, he was bound by the most subtle karmic afflictions and became liberated from them. For such a being, who has been liberated from the karmic afflictions for one time period, and who is experiencing fear and disgust, the state of aversion and sorrow is the least subtle from the point of view of its origin.
**124.** Thus, the ownership of the least subtle state of aversion and sorrow, which is related to the karmic afflictions of all beings, has been explained.
**125.** Now, the least and most subtle states of aversion and sorrow are explained in terms of their quantity.
**126.** The state of the most subtle aversion and sorrow is the least in quantity compared to the state of the origin of false belief.
**127.** The states of aversion and sorrow, which are related to the karmic afflictions of repulsion, attraction, and entanglement, are progressively less subtle, and are deposited outside the stream of the subtle states of aversion and sorrow. After that, at the time of the birth of the god, a state of aversion and sorrow enters the stream of subtle states of aversion and sorrow. At that time, the state of aversion and sorrow of that god is less subtle than the state of aversion and sorrow related to the three karmic afflictions of repulsion, attraction, and entanglement.
