XV प्राचीन जैन वाड्मयके प्रकाशनमें अभिरुचि देखी । अवसर पाकर एक दिन मैंने उन्हें उक्त दोनों ग्रन्थोंकी प्रेसकापियां दिखाकर ऊपर लिखा सर्व वृत्तान्त सुनाया और कहा कि भारतीय-ज्ञानपीठके आप भी ट्रस्टी है क्या बैठकके समय डा. हीरालाल नी और डा० उपाध्यायसे आप पूछनेकी कृपा करेंगे कि वे लोग इनके प्रकाशनकी क्यों स्वीकृति नहीं देते ? उन्होंने सर्व बाते ध्यानसे सुनकर पूछा कि इन दानों ग्रन्योंके पफाशनम क्या व्यय होगा और मैने एक आनुमानिक व्ययका हिसाब लिखकर उन्हे दे दिया। कुछ दिन बाद श्रीमान् वा छं टेलालजीका कलकत्ता पहुँचने पर पत्र मिला कि साहू श्रीशान्तिप्रसाद जी तो इग समय रसिया गये है, वहाँ से दिवाली तक लौटेंगे। यदि आप चाहें, तो अन्य सस्थान प्रकाशनकी ग.जना की जा सकती है। मैंने उत्तरमें स्वीकृति दे दी । पर्युपणपर्वमें श्रीमुख्तार ग्नान मुझे कलकत्ता भेजा और कहा कि उक्त ग्रन्थोंकी प्रेसकापी साथ में ले जाइए, तथा जहाँ बापूजी -चित समझे पहले कमा पपाहडको छपने के लिए देदीजिए ।
मै यथासमय दशलाक्षणी पर्वपर कलकत्ता पहुचा और श्री वीजीकी जयन्तीपर बाबूजीके ही साथ ईसरी भी श्राया। इसी समय दिल्लीस श्री० मुख्तारसा भी ईसरी पधारे । दोनों महाशयोंने प्रेस आदिके व वन श्री १० महेन्द्रकुमारजी न्यायाचार्य परामर्श किया और बनारसमें ग्रन्थ छपनेका निश्चय कर मुझे बनारस जानकी व्यवस्था कर दी। यासीज वदी ६ ता० २१ सितम्बर सन् ५४ को मै बनारस पहुँच गया और ज्ञानमण्डल गन्त्रालयसे बात-चीत पक्की करके ग्रन्थ प्रेसमें दे दिया । लगभग ८ मासमें ग्रन्थ छपकर तैयार हो गया। पर प्रस्तावना तो लिखना तो शेष था। इसी बीच विवाहित पुत्रीकी मृत्यु के समाचार पाकर मै दश चला गया।
देशमें ठीक श्रुतपंचमीके दिन बाबूजीफा पत्र मिला, कि हमारी इच्छा तो इसी श्रुतपचमीपर ही ग्रन्थको प्रकाशित करनेकी थी, मगर वह पूरी न हो सकी। अब वीरशासन जयन्ती (श्रावणकृष्णा १) के दिन तो इसे प्रकाशित कर ही देना चाहिए। आपने प्रस्तावना लिखना प्रारम्भ कर दिया होगा। उसके लिए पूज्य मुख्तार सा० से परामर्श करना आवश्यक है, इत्यादि । मैं पत्र पाते ही उसी दिन घरसे दिल्ली चला आया और बाबूजीके साथ बैठकर पू० मुख्तार सा० से प्रस्तावनाके मुद्दोपर विचार-विनिमय किया, तथा प्रस्तावना-सम्बन्धी अपने सब नोट्स उन्हें दिखाए । अन्त में एक रूप-रेखा तैयार की गई और मैंने प्रस्तावना लिखना प्रारम्भ कर दिया । पर गर्मीकी अधिकतासे प्रयत्न करनेपर भी दिन भरमे एक पेज लिखना कठिन हो गया। प्रस्तावनाको जल्दीसे प्रेसमें देना जरूरी था। अतः मैं मसूरी चला गया और श्रीमान् रा० सा० लाला प्रद्युम्नकुमारजी रईस सहारनपुरवालों के पास जाकर ठहर गया।
मैं अपनी आध्यात्मिक शान्ति के लिए जीवनमें जिम एकान्त, शान्त वातावरणकी कल्पना किया करता हूँ, वह मुझे मसूरीमें रा० सा० ला० प्रद्युम्नकुमारजीके पास आकर मिला। उन्होंने मेरे अनुकूल सर्व व्यवस्था कर दी और मैं भी २-१ अपवादोंको छोड़कर अखण्ड मौन लेकर प्रस्तावना लिखने में लग गया और प्रस्तावनाका बहुभाग लिखकर वापिस दिल्ली आगया । श्री मुख्तार सा० के साथ बा० छोटेलालजी और प० परमानन्दजी शास्त्रीने प्रस्तावनाको सुना, आवश्यक सुझाव दिये और तदनुसार यह प्रस्तावना विज्ञ पाठकों के सम्मुख..पस्थित है।
कसायपाहुड जैसे महान् ग्रन्थके ऊपर प्रस्तावना लिखने के लिए और समस्त जैन वाङ्मयके भीतर उपलब्ध कर्म-साहित्यके साथ उसकी तुलना करने के लिए कम-से-कम एक वर्पका समय अपेक्षित था, लेकिन वीर-शासन-सघके मंत्रीजीकी इच्छा इसे जल्दीसे जल्दी स्वाध्याय-प्रेमी जिज्ञासु पाठकोंके सम्मुख उपस्थित करनेकी थी, अतएव इस अल्प समयमें मेरेसे जो कुछ भी बन सका, वह पाठकोंके सम्मुख उपस्थित है।
