Sparshanaprarupana (Exposition of the Spatial Extent of Karmic Bondage):
- The spatial extent of the bondage of the karmas for the jivas (living beings) with the highest, medium, lowest, and non-lowest stages of bondage is described.
- For example, the jivas with the highest stage of bondage of the Mohaniya karma (deluding karma) have occupied a space equal to the innumerable part of the universe in the present time, and a space equal to eight or fourteen parts out of fourteen in the past and future times.
- The jivas with the medium stage of bondage have occupied the entire universe.
- The jivas with the lowest stage of bondage have occupied a space equal to the innumerable part of the universe, and the jivas with the non-lowest stage of bondage have occupied the entire universe.
- Similarly, the spatial extent of the bondage of the remaining seven primary karmas and their sub-types with the highest, medium, lowest, and non-lowest stages is described.
Kalaprarupana (Exposition of the Duration of Karmic Bondage):
- The duration of the bondage of the karmas with the highest, medium, lowest, and non-lowest stages for various jivas is considered.
- For example, the lowest duration of the bondage of the highest stage of the Mohaniya karma is one samaya (smallest unit of time), and the highest duration is the innumerable part of a palya (a very long unit of time).
- The bondage of the medium stage has the entire duration.
- The lowest duration of the bondage of the lowest stage of the Mohaniya karma is one samaya, and the highest duration is a countable number of samayas.
- The bondage of the non-lowest stage has the entire duration.
- Similarly, the lowest and highest durations of the bondage of the highest, medium, lowest, and non-lowest stages of all the primary karmas and their sub-types are described.
