As time progressed, the idea of scriptural differences as well as insertions transformed. Thus, the differences in views regarding conduct led to a divergence even in the shared belief of both factions concerning the inseparable core scriptural teachings. Consequently, one faction began to assert that the inseparable core scriptural teachings had largely disappeared. They also claimed that what remained was not free from artificiality and new insertions, yet they did not entirely abandon that core teaching. Simultaneously, they started to create a specific construction of their conduct-supporting scriptures and propagated their perspective through it. The other faction observed that the first faction also accused the core teachings of having artificial elements but did not entirely abandon them nor did they aid in their preservation. Seeing this, the second faction organized a conference in Mathura. In this conference, they determined the reading of both the core teachings and their respective auxiliary scriptures, their classification, and their brief elaboration, which was largely accepted by all the elders participating in the conference. Although this was a new formulation of the scriptures with distinctions between the core and auxiliary scriptures, and even though there were entries and validations of the auxiliary within the core, indicating an equivalence of both, there were differences in their classification and reading establishment. Nevertheless, this new version was very close to the core scriptures because it contained all the conduct-supportive elements of the opposing faction that were present in the core scriptures. From the time of this Mathura formulation, a significant difference emerged in the shared belief of the core scriptures between the two factions, which laid the foundation for the intense scriptural differences between them. The faction supporting the idea of the core scriptures claimed that the original core teachings had completely vanished, and what was with the 'scholarly' faction was not original, i.e., not composed by the revered Acharyas (Gandharas) but created and compiled by later Acharyas. The 'scholarly' faction asserted that undoubtedly many new scriptures had been created by later Acharyas.
