10. 5-6] The upward motion of a liberated soul and the reasons for its Siddhiman motion are elaborated as 237 factors. Although qualities such as Kshayikveerya (temporary energy), Kshayikcharitra (temporary conduct), and Kshayiksukh (temporary happiness) are not explicitly excluded like Kshayiksamyaktva, their inclusion in the meaning of Siddhattva also implies their exclusion. 4.
The liberated soul immediately ascends after attaining liberation.
Then it proceeds upward from the end of the universe. 5. After the complete destruction of all karmas, the liberated soul ascends to the highest point of the universe instantly.
As soon as all karmas and related feelings like Upashamika are destroyed, simultaneously three actions occur - 1. separation from the body, 2. Siddhiman motion, and 3. attaining lokanta (the highest point of the universe). 5.
The reasons for Siddhiman motion are as follows: due to previous experiences, absence of attachment, breaking of bonds, and the result of such motion. 6.
With the absence of previous attachments, breaking of bonds, and as a result of such motion, the liberated soul ascends. The soul attains motion immediately upon freeing from karmas; it does not remain stationary. The motion is solely upward and only reaches the end of the universe, not beyond it; this is the traditional belief. A question arises here: How does the immaterial soul move without the aid of karmas or physical substances like the body? Why does it move upward and not downward or sideways? Answers to these questions are provided here.
The nature of the soul-substance is dynamic like that of material substance. The difference is that material substances (pudgala) are inherently downward-moving, whereas the soul is inherently upward-moving. The soul does not move or moves downwards or sideways only due to the association or bondage with other restrictive substances, which are karmas. Once freed from karma and with the breaking of its bondage, there are no restrictions left; hence, the liberated soul gets the opportunity to ascend according to its nature. Here, the previous experience becomes a cause, meaning that due to it, the liberated soul ascends. The previous experience means the momentum (impulse) gained even after the release from previously bound karmas. Just as a potter’s wheel continues to spin from the momentum gained before even after the stick and hands are removed, similarly, a karma-free soul also spins due to the impulse gained from former karmas.
