Tattvarthasutra
[7. 23-24 The experience (anubhav) is the potency of giving various types of results (vipak).
The experience is understood differently based on the nature or character of different karmas.
From it, that is, from the experience, the shedding (nirjara) occurs.
The experience and its bond create the potency to give intense or mild results in each karma according to the intensity of the causal attachment (kashaya) during the time of bondage.
This capacity to give results is the experience, and its formation is termed experience-bond (anubhavbandh).
The results of the experience manifest only when the time is right, but it is important to note that each experience-giving potency yields results according to the nature of the karma it is attached to, and not according to the nature of other karmas.
For instance, the experience of knowledge-obscuring karma gives intense or mild results based on its own nature— it obscures knowledge itself and does not yield results according to the nature of other karmas such as perception-obscuring or feeling-producing karma. In essence, it does not cover the power of perception or produce feelings of happiness or suffering, etc. Similarly, the experience of perception-obscuring karma completely covers the power of perception in an intense or mild manner, but does not carry out the effects of other karmas related to knowledge obscuring, etc.
The rule of experience-bond according to the nature of karma applies only to fundamental natures (moolprakriti) and not to derivative natures (uttarprakriti). This is because the derivative nature of any karma later transforms into another derivative nature of the same karma due to the intensity of attachment, resulting in the experience giving intense or mild results according to the nature of the transformed derivative nature. For example, when the knowledge-obscuring karma transforms into the hearing-obscuring karma or other similar derivative natures, the experience of knowledge-obscuring karma works to cover hearing knowledge, or duration knowledge, etc., according to the nature of hearing-obscuring karma. However, there are many derivative natures that, despite being similar, do not interchange with each other. For instance, the perception-deluding karma does not transform into the conduct-deluding karma or vice versa. Similarly, the hellish lifespan karma does not transform into the animal lifespan karma or any other lifespan karma.
