A vow refers to the regulation that is accepted with faith and knowledge. Accordingly, the twelve vows of a householder fall under the term 'vow'. Nevertheless, here the use of the two terms vow and conduct indicates that the fundamental rules of the nature of conduct are non-violence, truth, etc., and the remaining rules like renunciation in all directions are merely confirmations of these fundamental rules. Each vow and conduct possesses five transgressions counted from a moderate perspective because, from a condensed perspective, fewer can be imagined, and from an expanded perspective, more than five could be counted.
Conduct means the absence of passions like attachment and aversion while cultivating an equanimous state. The practical rules like non-violence and truth, which are implemented in daily life to uphold this fundamental form of conduct, are all elements of conduct.
