Excesses of Vows and Conduct
The number and names of excesses of vows and conduct
There are five excesses in vows and conduct respectively. They are as follows:
Bondage, killing, severance of the shadow, imposition of excessive burden, and prohibition of food and drink are the five excesses pertaining to the first vow of non-violence (Ahimsa Anuvrata).
False teachings, concealed explanations, clandestine actions, wrongful appropriations, and distinction in physical mantras are the five excesses related to the second vow of truth (Satya Anuvrata).
Stealing, appropriation of stolen goods, violation of adversarial rule, lesser and greater valuation of self-esteem, and manipulative behaviors are the five excesses concerning the third vow of non-stealing (Achurya Anuvrata).
Engagement in relationships with others, improper movements regarding possessions, movements of unpossessed belongings, participation in sexual play, and intense pursuit of desires are the five excesses associated with the fourth vow of celibacy (Brahmacharya Anuvrata).
Excessive indulgences, wrongfully interpreted expressions, contempt for time, acts of misappropriation, and mixed arrivals are also mentioned.
