हिंसा का स्वरूप इन दोनों को स्वतन्त्र ( अलग-अलग ) हिंसा मान लेने और दोनों की दोषरूपता का पूर्वोक्त रीति से तारतम्य जान लेने के बाद इस प्रश्न का उत्तर स्पष्ट हो जाता है कि ये दोनों प्रकार की हिंसाएँ प्रमत्तयोग-जनित प्राणवध जैसी हिसा की कोटि की ही है या भिन्न प्रकार की । यह भी स्पष्ट हो जाता है कि भले ही स्थूल आँख न देख सके लेकिन तात्त्विक रूप से तो प्रमत्तयोग ही प्रमत्तयोगजनित प्राणनाश की कोटि की हिंसा है और केवल प्राणनाश ऐसी हिंसा नही है जो उक्त कोटि मे आ सके ।
प्रश्न-यदि प्रमत्तयोग ही हिंसा की सदोषता का मूल बीज है तब तो हिसा की व्याख्या इतनी ही पर्याप्त होगी कि 'प्रमत्तयोग हिसा है।' यदि ऐसा हो तो यह प्रश्न स्वाभाविक ही उठता है कि फिर हिंसा की व्याख्या मे 'प्राणनाश' को स्थान देने का क्या कारण है ?
उत्तर-तात्त्विक रूप मे तो प्रमत्तयोग ही हिसा है लेकिन समुदाय द्वारा सम्पूर्णतया और बहुत अंशों मे उसका त्याग करना सम्भव नही। इसके विपरीत स्थूल होने पर भी प्राणवध का त्याग सामुदायिक जीवनहित के लिए वांछनीय है और यह बहुत अंशों मे सम्भव भी है। प्रमत्तयोग न भी छूटा हो लेकिन स्थूल प्राणवधवृत्ति के कम हो जाने से भी प्रायः सामुदायिक जीवन में सुख-शान्ति रहती है। अहिंसा के विकास-क्रम के अनुसार भी समुदाय मे पहले स्थूल प्राणनाश का त्याग और बाद में धीरे-धीरे प्रमत्तयोग का त्याग सम्भव होता है। इसीलिए आध्यात्मिक विकास में सहायक रूप में प्रमत्तयोगरूप हिंसा का ही त्याग इष्ट होने पर भी सामुदायिक जीवन की दृष्टि से हिंसा के स्वरूप के अन्तर्गत स्थूल प्राणनाश को स्थान दिया गया है तथा उसके त्याग को भी अहिसा की कोटि में रखा गया है।
प्रश्न-यह तो सही है कि शास्त्रकार ने जिसे हिंसा कहा है उससे निवृत्त होना ही अहिंसा है। पर ऐसे अहिसाव्रती के लिए जीवन-निर्माण की दृष्टि से क्या-क्या कर्तव्य अनिवार्य है ?
उत्तर-१. जीवन को सादा बनाना और आवश्यकताओ को कम करना ।
२. मानवीय वृत्ति मे अज्ञान की चाहे जितनी गुंजाइश हो लेकिन पुरुषार्थ के अनुसार ज्ञान का भी स्थान है ही। इसलिए प्रतिक्षण सावधान रहना और कही भूल न हो जाय, इसका ध्यान रखना और यदि भूल हो जाय तो वह ध्यान से ओझल न हो सके, ऐसी दृष्टि बनाना ।
३. आवश्यकताओं को कम करने और सामान रहने का लक्ष्य रखने पर
