6. 11-26] Eight Fundamental Karmas - Different Causes of Bondage
5. Abhokṣṇa-samveg - Being wary of worldly pleasures that truly become sources of suffering instead of happiness; that is, never falling into greed. 6. Yathāśakti tyāg - Making alms, protection, knowledge donations etc. with one's minimal capacity without hiding it, conducted with discernment. 7. Yathāśakti tapa - Practicing all forms of endurance without concealing one's strength and with discernment. 8. Saṅgha-sādhu-samādhikaranacaturvidha - Leading the community, especially the ascetics, to meditation so that they remain healthy. 9. Vaiyāvr̥ttyakaraṇa - When a virtuous person encounters difficulties, making an effort to appropriately alleviate their distress. 10-13. Chaturbhakti- Maintaining pure devotion towards the Arihants, Āchāryas, Bahuśruta, and scriptures. 14. Āvaśyakā parihāṇi - Not abandoning the feelings associated with the performance of the six essential rituals, such as samāyik. 15. Mokṣamārga-prabhāvanā - Putting aside ego, embodying the path of knowledge and liberation in life, and increasing its influence by guiding others. 16. Pravacanavātsalya - Like a cow shows affection for her calf, maintaining selfless love for fellow practitioners.
Low Gotra Karma Causes
1. Paranindā - Speaking ill of others; the tendency to reveal true or false faults maliciously. 2. Ātmapraśansā - Praising oneself, that is, the tendency to reveal one's true or false virtues. 3. Ācchādana - Hiding others' virtues and harboring the ill will to not acknowledge them even when the situation arises. 4. Udbhāvan - Exhibiting qualities one does not possess, that is, the display of one's bad qualities.
High Gotra Karma Causes
1. Ātmanindā - Observing one’s own faults. 2. Parapraśansā - Appreciating the virtues of others. 3. Asadguṇodbhāvan - Revealing one’s own vices. 4. Swaguṇācchādana - Concealing one’s existing virtues. 5. Namravr̥tti - Humility towards revered individuals. 6. Anutsēka - Not being proud even when possessing more knowledge, wealth, etc. than others.
Antarāya Karma Causes
Hindering someone from giving a donation, receiving something, or enjoying any indulgence is called vighna-formation, or creating such tendencies in the mind.
Special Statement Regarding the Birth of Samparāyik Karmas
The sutras from 11 to 26 merely denote the various asrava or bondage causes of each basic nature of samparāyik karma. That is, besides the asravas mentioned for each basic nature, there are other asravas of the same nature that may not be explicitly stated but should still be understood.
